Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry assistance in Catawba County.

Find help from Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry  in Catawba County. Note all resources are limited. There are several services available, but most of them are focused on preventing hunger in the community as well as homelessness. To this end, the charity will pass out groceries from an on-site food pantr or help the homeless/low income with hygiene needs, such as showers.. Or the agency will provide information on intake sites for SNAP food stamps or other public aid, such as Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

Note in some cases there is limited funding to help with portion of rent, electric bills or a mortgage payment - but all that GHCCM financial help is limited and “comes and goes”. Whether it is the use of the pantry, or an application to a program such as SNAP, most of the aid is for the low income. Applicants from across Catawba County will need proof of income as well as number of household numbers. There will also be an assessment done of the client to determine what they may be qualified for.

GHCCM applications to public and government food programs

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formally known as Food Stamps) is a Federally funded service that also relies on additional money from the state of North Carolina. The goal is to help very low-income people, regardless of their age or race, buy the food they need for good health. Some of the people from Hickory or Catawba County who may qualify, even if they own a home, are employed, or are receiving cash assistance or benefit, are Families, Elderly People, Individuals, Legal Non-Citizens, or People with Disabilities.

Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry (GHCCM) recommends that people use food stamps to supplement their budget. They should not rely on it for their sold source of nutrition. Almost every beneficiary will still need to spend a portion of their own cash along with their food stamps benefits in order to buy enough groceries for a month. The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is available statewide. Most of the items are passed out from soup kitchens, food pantries, homeless shelters and other charitable institutions, such as churches in Catawba County.
