Free emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, charities and churches in the Virginia Beach area can provide resources to the less fortunate. There is emergency food assistance to people or families who need help. There are various form of support given to individuals that are faced with a crisis. Find a free food near you below, and a free referral number is at the bottom of the page.

Programs and resources offered by each food bank will vary. In general the pantries provide those who need help a supply of nutritious, well-balanced groceries that could include various proteins, fruits, and vegetables. Some of the locations and churches can also distribute free meals or food boxes around Thanksgiving and Christmas time too. Some centers in Virginia Beach may also have clothing, personal toiletries or case management.

The primary goals of the food banks are to assist people who are hungry, families who need meals for their families, and referrals to long term benefits including SNAP food stamps or USDA meals for kids. The centers will offer help to those who frequently skip meals or have lower quality diets because they cannot always afford to pay for the food they need.

The food pantries, many of which are located in churches, use in-kind donations and funds from local businesses, members of the community, and USDA government assistance.
