Fayette Samaritans assistance programs.

Fayette Samaritans provides a number of assistance programs to low income families, the homeless, and people in Fayette County that are struggling. While the focus is on assisting with basic needs, the churches that are part of the charity will combine that with other forms of advice and guidance, with a goal of long term stability.

Most of the aid is for residents facing poverty, but that have a plan to overcome this. Also, many people seeking help have never asked for it in the past, and they are in fact facing a one time crisis.

There is support from local churches, and a focus in on food and clothing. This may be a box of groceries, hot meals, or even a food basket at Christmas. Fayette Samaritans has information on pantries and soup kitchens in the region, and the goal it to feed the poor.

Clothing can be passed out for school or work reasons. If an individual has an interview, but needs the proper clothing for it, then this will be when the clothes program can help.

While much more limited, as it depends on money donated to the faith based charity, there may be emergency funds for certain bills that deal with homeless prevention or life threatening illnesses. This can include rent help or maybe medications for a serious medical condition. If an eviction could be caused by unpaid utilities, then Fayette Samaritans may assist with those costs too.

Get referrals to local Family Shelters and also housing from other programs. While terms and conditions change based on the Fayette County center, clients will receive up to one month of short-term emergency lodging to a separate segment of the population. There are services for single homeless women too.

All of these programs include case management to help residents come to terms with the issues that caused their circumstances. Staff will help them obtain resources, secure permanent housing or low income apartments, and develop plans that will help them pay the rent on time to maintain their housing.

The following advice and guidance services are available through these programs, including Success Planning as well as Life Skills Coaching. Other resources from Fayette Samaritans free Clothing, Shoes, and Household Items, and relocation.

Clients of Fayette Samaritans that are making the shift from shelters or transitional programs, and others in the area who are in need, can find help during this timeframe. Individuals will be given referral to Community Services, and this can include information on rental vouchers, and classes on Budget and Savings Education. They will also be given furniture when ready to move into their own home.

Transitional Housing Program for Families is provided by Fayette Samaritans in partnership with charities and government agencies. Other assistance includes housing relocation assistance; grants for security deposits, and workshops on Money Management or Tenant/Landlord Rights.

All of the services from Fayette Samaritans are provided in a welcoming and supportive environment, where families and individuals learn positive ways to face and overcome their barriers to self-sufficiency and reclaim their lives.

Seniors can also get housing assistance. Fayette Samaritans addresses the needs of chronically homeless senior citizens in the county. The program maintains dozens of apartments of permanent, supportive housing to previously homeless men and women. They will gain financial aid, medical care, and comprehensive and coordinated supportive services, including from the American Association of Retired People.

Fayette Samaritans partners with other churches and non-profits in the development and operation of long term solutions. This will provide permanent accommodations and continuing supportive services to both singles and families with children. Program services include low income housing, case management, mental health care, and development services.

There are dozens of churches and faith based groups that are part of Fayette Samaritans, and many volunteers and businesses also contribute. Some of the main providers include A-M, Christ's Church at Whitewater, Covenant Presbyterian Church, Flat Rock AME, New Beginnings Covenant Church, The Rock Baptist, and others such as Corinth Baptist Church. As noted, there are dozens more. Dial 770-719-2707 for more details.
