Salvation Army assistance programs Douglas County Georgia.

In an effort to help the poor, or anyone facing a crisis, the Douglas County Georgia Salvation Army offers a number of Family Services, counseling, and more. The assistance programs cover many different needs and fall under different categories, ranging from holiday help to free school supplies, financial aid, ministries, rent assistance and free food among others. The main resources from the Salvation Army in Douglasville are below.

One of the main goals is to provide basic needs. This ranges from free food to clothing, household supplies, and maybe financial assistance. There are a few main tools used to do this. The Douglas County Salvation Army may offer some or all of the following, using these specific resources.

-Thrift store – This is where clothing is sold from (or free vouchers given). There may also be furniture, household supplies, toys for kids, vintage or collectibles, and much more sold at a low price.
-Financial aid – Funds can help pay bills, ranging from rent to utilities, gas, and heating among others.
- Douglasville Salvation Army food pantry – The Salvation Army operates this for the community. It is a client choice center open a few days per week, and gives out free groceries, baby formula, food to seniors, and more. There are also referrals to other food pantries in Georgia
-Seasonal and holiday programs – The two largest are the back to school supply drive as well as free Christmas presents/gifts from Angel Tree, both focus on kids and the youth.
-Shelter – This too is part of financial aid. The homeless in Douglas County can get overnight accommodations as well as a meal, and referrals to employment, substance abuse prevention programs, and rental assistance too.
-Vouchers – In a crisis, such as women fleeing domestic violence or someone recovering from a disaster, the Salvation Army will allow the client to shop at the thrift store for free to get clothes, household supplies, and other goods.
-Disaster response – This encompasses basic needs as well as financial help.
-Needs for job training and self-sufficiency, including gasoline vouchers or work clothes (suits, dresses, shoes, etc.).

Second of all, the center serves as a place for advice, counseling, and general support. This is really part of their ministry services. The Salvation Army case managers in Douglas County want to end the cycle of poverty. Or if someone is battling a drug, alcohol, or other addiction, they can address that need too. Or if there is another needs (such as immigrants looking for support, violence, underemployed, runaway teens, etc.) all of that and more is available.

Case managers will give free, confidential advice. There are never any obligations to receiving support from the church/charity. Instead the organization is committed to trying to empower the client, and put them on the path to growth and/or financial stability. The tools used in this process are as follows.

-Ministries – These are for men, women, and children. Spiritual and other guidance is given.
-Referrals – Salvation Army counselors can help clients apply for benefits from the government, such as housing in Douglas County Georgia, food stamps, disability, and more.
-Job and employment programs – Whether unemployed or looking for new skills, support is given.
-Money management as well as financial stability – A key to gaining stability is learning how to budget and save money, pay down debt, and more. This service is given for free. More on debt reduction programs.

Those are just some of the Family as well as Social Services from the Douglas County Salvation Army locations. The list of what they can do will change. It is decided by funding as well as donations from the community. Many volunteers also work with the organization to help clients in any way they can. Even when they can’t assist, referrals may be given.
