Free credit counseling agencies in Connecticut.

Connecticut non-profit credit counseling agencies can help individuals improve their financial condition, reduce their unpaid debts, and get back on track financially. Many of the organizations will offer consumers free services and advice on programs such as debt consolidation, foreclosure counseling, budgeting, and pre-bankruptcy filing.

Call or stop by one of the Connecticut organizations below. You can set up an appointment to speak about and review your overall financial situation. All services are confidential. Find the best ways to address challenges with unpaid credit card bills and debts, mortgage delinquency, and outstanding medical debts. Many of the Connecticut non-profit organizations are also HUD certified foreclosure counseling organizations

Get help and work with a certified and highly trained counselor from one of the non-profit Connecticut agencies below. They will review, and advise on, your income, expenses, and overall debts levels. Many can help you enter into repayment plans with your banks or creditors. Over the years the agencies have assisted thousands of consumers with reducing obligations such as credit cards, medical bills, and personal loans.

This agency supports all of Fairfield County. The center offers people the tools, knowledge, and support that may be needed to improve your overall financial situation. Consumers across the entire region, including all of Fairfield County, can receive support. The FEC is a partnership of the Connecticut Association for Human Services, Bridgeport Family Economic Success Initiative, Career Resources, Co-Opportunity, FSW, and the Bridgeport Child Advocacy Coalition. The United Way of Coastal Fairfield County is also a main partner of the credit counseling assistance programs.

The non-profit center offers free one-on-one coaching in the areas of  debt reduction, budgeting, credit, savings, and planning for the future. Specialists can also help people apply for government and public assistance such as HUSKY (health insurance) or Care 4 Kids childcare assistance. Basically they will do everything they can to help improve a family’s budget.

 

 

 

The state of Connecticut also offers saving accounts from the Individual Development Accounts (IDAs). This is an option for income qualified residents that can help people jump-start their savings by matching 100% of a client’s contributions, up to a certain limit.

A leading non-profit organization that also has a local presence. The not for profit MMI provides consumers with free financial guidance, credit counseling, debt management assistance, community-wide educational programs, bankruptcy counseling, advice and education services. The center also offers housing and mortgage counseling assistance to consumers via Internet, in-person sessions, and phone.

Money Management International is also a federal government HUD-approved housing counseling agency and offers reverse mortgage and mortgage default counseling. Specific services include Foreclosure/Mortgage Delinquency and Loss Mitigation Counseling, Home Equity Conversion Counseling or Reverse Mortgage Counseling, Homebuyer/Home Purchase Counseling, and Homebuyer Education Programs.

This free service can match low and moderate income working families and individuals with highly trained and volunteer budget coaches who assist them in understanding their current income and expenses. All of this, and more, can assist with improving financial literacy.
