Flagstaff and Coconino County Salvation Army assistance programs.

The Salvation Army in Flagstaff can be there in time of need. They assist in disasters, offer food and financial assistance from a social services department for rent or utilities, and offer case management among other resources. There are also meal programs, free job coaching or school supplies, homeless shelters as well as Christmas toys or money. The goal of what is offered is to help satisfy the basic as well as emergency needs for people who lack the resources to care for themselves.

Angel Tree is the main Christmas assistance programs. Donors need to “adopt” a child from a tree, which will be in public places in Flagstaff Arizona. The donor then buys some or all of what the child requests, whether it is clothes, a toy, games, etc. The Salvation Army helps administrate this along with volunteers as well as businesses.

The workers can use the center to regain valuable self-esteem and learn real life, vocational skills, or use ESL training. Or apply for free government job coaching services. The thrift store is a place to buy bargain items and it allows the community to shop with dignity.

Free food and financial aid

On a limited basis, there may be emergency financial assistance. The Flagstaff Arizona Salvation Army money may be used for utilities, housing, rent, or water bills. Any funds are issued on a case by case basis and is dependent on their being money available. Appointments will always be required.

A food pantry as well as material good distribution center are on site. There is an application process with residency, income, and other criteria. The amount of perishable food or free groceries given to each household takes home from the Coconino County Salvation Army is determined by family size as well as what the shelves have on site. Other social service programs include referrals. As the staff are aware of local medical clinics, prescription drug assistance programs, and Arizona government benefit programs (SNAP, job placement, welfare, etc.) All of them can also be effective to helping a client.
