Cleveland Tennessee Salvation Army assistance programs.

The Salvation Army social services department in Bradley County Tennessee provides emergency assistance to a family while working with them spiritually, employment wise, and other growth and development. Everything from financial aid to help with past due utilities to job training from Pathways of Hope to shelter are offered. Much more help is provided too.

There is an office in Cleveland Tennessee as noted below. But it is really part of a larger regional network that supports multiple counties, including Bradley. So it draws seniors, the working poor, single parents, and others to it from across the region.

One core service is the Disaster Response team. With tornadoes, inclement weather, fires, and other events in the region, the Salvation Army responds. They offer many forms of support, such as the following.

  • -Practical goods including meals, food, vouchers for replacement furniture from a thrift store.
  • -Counseling and emotional support to people impacted.
  • -Information on rehousing services, whether in a motel or temporary shelter.
  • -Both responders and victims can get help from the disaster response team.

Now the Bradley County Salvation Army assistance program that is in highest demand is their Social Services. This resource, which uses both donated funds and money from the thrift store, tries to help as many families as possible but it is limited. The church will try though.

The financial aid that may be offered is as follows. There may be some grants to pay for utility bills, electric or heating costs during the winter. Other aid will feed a family, and this includes free boxes of food or vouchers. Other social services include clothes for work or school, household supplies, and (very rarely) rent assistance.

Free Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance is available. It spreads the joy of the holidays to the poor, children, and lonely among others. There are a few parts of this; one being Angel Tree which offers free toys, games, and presents to kids. Other holiday programs in Bradley County serve meals, provide free turkey dinners, and much more. Find other sources of free Christmas gifts.

Two regional resources focus on the homeless, and they include 614 Corps' a swell as a day center. Both combine transitional housing along with educational and job training support. A free computer lab is on site too. Another resource from the day center is that operates as a cold weather shelter. It gives hot food, snacks, personal care kits, and much more. The goal is to stabilize the client, and eventually get them back into local, affordable permanent housing.

The Cleveland Salvation Army Family Thrift Store sells supplies (home and personal) to anyone. But another function is the fact is can give out (for free) household items as well as clothes to local residents in need. It is an emergency only service. Some of what may be available includes shoes, furniture, clothing, Christmas toys, household items, sports equipment, electronics, TVs, electronics, and books.

The Pathway of Hope is another core program. This is all about development. But it can combine short term aid (such as money for paying rent or medical needs) along with case management. But the Salvation Army gives Hope by enrolling people into GED Classes and/or Life-Skills sessions. There are also Volunteer and Internship Opportunities to help develop clients.

Anyone who needs help can try the Bradley County Tennessee Salvation Army. Their address 437 Inman Street Cleveland, TN 37311, or dial 423-756-1023 for intake. Even if they can’t assist, then referrals may be given too.
