What Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan Offers — and How to Get Help

Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan (CCSEM) is one of the largest nonprofit service organizations in the Detroit region, operating across all six counties of the Archdiocese of Detroit — Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, Lapeer, and St. Clair. This page is a plain-English guide to what CCSEM actually offers, where their programs are located, and how residents can access services. Unlike the organization's own website, which can be difficult to navigate, the goal here is to give you a clear picture of what's available so you can figure out whether CCSEM has something that fits your situation.

CCSEM serves people of all faiths and backgrounds. The administrative office is at 24445 Northwestern Hwy, Suite 200, Southfield, MI 48075, and the main number is (855) 882-2736. Individual programs have their own locations and phone numbers, which are listed below.

Center for the Works of Mercy — Detroit - main for social services

CCSEM's main hub for direct services in Detroit is the Center for the Works of Mercy, which recently moved to 10301 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI 48202. The center isusually  open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and can be reached at (313) 335-3261. Two programs operate out of this location that are directly relevant to people in financial or housing difficulty.

The Mercy Clothing Closet provides free clothing to individuals and families in need — call ahead to schedule an appointment. Case managers at the center assist with housing-related issues and help connect residents to additional community resources.

Project Hope, also available here, is a support program for parents and pregnant women that includes confidential pregnancy testing, baby supplies such as diapers and clothing, breastfeeding guidance, parenting education, and adoption information. To reach Project Hope, call the Cabrini Clinic at (313) 961-7863, extension 5.

The center also hosts several partner agencies on-site that provide services alongside CCSEM's own programs — a useful detail if you're trying to get multiple things done in one trip.

All Saints Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry — Southwest Detroit

The All Saints Food Pantry at 6945 Wagner St., Detroit, MI 48210, serves low-income residents of the 48209 and 48210 zip codes. The pantry is generally open a few days per week - often on Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and distributes a mix of perishable and non-perishable food. Call (855) 882-2736, extension 3321, before visiting to confirm current hours. New clients need to call first to schedule an appointment; walk-ins are not accepted.

CCSEM has also launched a St. Leo's Soup Kitchen location at 8601 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI 48202, for those in need of hot meals in the Woodward corridor.

La Casa Amiga — Pontiac (Immigrant and Refugee Services)

For immigrants and their families in Oakland County and across southeast Michigan, La Casa Amiga at 76 Williams St., Pontiac, MI 48341, is CCSEM's dedicated service center. It usually operates Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and offers services in both English and Spanish. The number is (248) 338-4250, extension 3700. La Casa Amiga is worth understanding in detail because it covers ground that most general assistance agencies don't.

Staff help eligible families apply for benefits. This includes SNAP benefits, Medicaid, and other government programs, and will follow up on applications and denials on clients' behalf. Learn more about what pro bono legal help may due and how to access even more legal aid.

An on-site legal clinic assists with immigration paperwork, work authorizations, and family reunification — though matters involving deportation proceedings require a referral to outside counsel.

Job assistance including resume help and interview prep is available, as is a food pantry for clients in economic need. GED classes, English as a Second Language instruction, computer classes, and parenting and nutrition classes round out the education offerings.

Behavioral Health Counseling - income based counseling

CCSEM operates behavioral health counseling across all six southeast Michigan counties, with office locations in Detroit, Madison Heights, St. Clair Shores, and other communities. Services cover individual therapy, couples and family counseling, children and adolescent mental health, ADHD support, substance use counseling, and group therapy. Medicaid is accepted, and fees are available on a sliding scale for those who don't have insurance. To register as a new patient or find the nearest counseling location, visit https://www.ccsem.org/counseling/ or call the main number.

St. Joseph Center of Hope — Monroe (Addiction Crisis Stabilization)

This is a program that many people across southeast Michigan don't know exists, and it fills a gap that few other organizations address. The St. Joseph Center of Hope at 222 Colonial Drive, Monroe, MI 48162, is a 12-bed crisis stabilization facility for adults dealing with active addiction or substance use withdrawal. It is usually open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., accepts walk-ins with no referral required, and does not require insurance.

The center provides meals, a shower, a safe place to rest, medical monitoring during withdrawal, and a pathway into formal treatment. The phone number is (734) 357-8880. For people in Monroe County facing an addiction emergency who don't know where to turn, this is where to start.

Senior Services — Adult Day and Residential Programs

CCSEM operates senior-focused programs out of Auburn Hills, including ENCORE Adult Day Services at 3300 S. Adams Road for older adults who need supervised care and activity during the day. The Residences at St. Matthew provides longer-term residential support. These programs are particularly relevant to family caregivers looking for structured daytime support for an elderly parent or family member. Call (855) 882-2736 for details - or for other possible options see the Michigan senior citizen assistance program page.

How to reach the right program

Because CCSEM runs more than a dozen locations with different programs at each, the most reliable approach is to call the main line at (855) 882-2736 and describe your situation. Staff can direct you to the appropriate location and tell you what to bring. For a full list of current office locations, visit https://www.ccsem.org/office-locations..

CCSEM was formed in 2012 by merging several Catholic social services agencies across the region and today serves more than 20,000 people annually. It operates as the charitable arm of the Archdiocese of Detroit but serves residents of all faiths, backgrounds, and immigration statuses.
