Many assistance programs are offered to struggling Cameron County residents as well as senior citizens and immigrants. They offer free furniture, food from a pantry, Thanksgiving meals, Christmas toys, and more.   • Cameron County has a holiday toy drive. They collect items from centers such as Administration Building at 964 E. Harrison St., Brownsville; Old Cameron County Courthouse (Dancy Building) at 1100 E. Monroe St., Brownsville; San Benito Annex Building at 1390 W. Expressway 83, San Benito; or the Harlingen Annex Building at 3302 Wilson Rd, Harlingen.
  • The Brownsville Police Department and City - Most years the government agencies try to collect new, unwrapped toys from the community then provide them to Children in Brownsville at a special holiday event. The programs is known as Christmas for Kids Toy Giveaway and there may be clothes, games, books, matchbox cars and more.
