Community Action of Central Texas provides referrals and some of their own services. Households can make inquires to public aid programs such as Head Start, CEAP for conserving energy, and many others. The phone number for this office is (512) 392-1161, and the programs support Caldwell County.

Case managers are effective at directing clients to a program for their need. They have information on everything from section 8 HUD vouchers to SSI disability. Another resources that many families living in poverty, including immigrants, can benefit from is SNAP food stamps, which will help them pay for groceries. Carolyn T. Smith Loaves and Fishes Outreach Ministry, or All Saints' Episcopal Church, offers a limited amount of money one day per week for paying bills. The funding is limited. But the money may help with rent expenses, water or gas bills, security deposits, and other housing needs. The goal is to help low-income families in Caldwell County maintain their home or apartment.

The Ministry, which is a church based group, can also provide the funds to pay for gasoline, local bus passes or car repairs. Last but not least are prescription medications for the ill or small dollar amounts to pay for a GED exam or school supplies. Telephone – 512-476-3589.

 

 

 

Caldwell County Texas Salvation Army is a Christian, faith based group that help the low-income and homeless. They give free stuff or financial help to the poor, vulnerable, and people in a crisis. The Lockhart Texas based charity mostly offers basic needs, such as clothing, free school supplies for students in Caldwell County, and hot meals to the homeless. Free Christmas gifts are also given out to kids in Caldwell County.

In some cases, financial assistance is paid out. This is a last resort only, but the expenses may be for utilities, rent, medical equipment, and eviction prevention services. Society of St. Vincent de Paul – They cover Caldwell County. There are clothing vouchers for regional thrift stores, prescription medications, cash grants for paying critical expenses, and more. Alpha Seventh-Day Adventist Dorcas operates a food pantry in the region. It is open once per month no matter where the family lives. Everything from groceries to infant formula or Christmas/Thanksgiving meals are offered. Call 512-202-7723.

Lockhart Family Practice Center of Caldwell County provides free preventive as well as primary care to Caldwell County residents under the age of 18. They check for diabetes, refer clients to low cost or free dental clinics, offer blood tests and other help. Other social services around health and nutritional can be arranged too.

For anyone else that needs free dental or health care, they have options available as well. There are a number of resources that provide support. Caldwell County Christian also has a clothing closet and emergency food pantry. Location is 901 Bois D'Arc St, Lockhart, Texas 78644, or call (512) 376-6661. They give out free shoes to kids, coats, backpacks for the school year and more.

Lockhart Housing Authority (phone (512) 398-6754) runs the section 8 HUD voucher program. When the waiting list is open, clients including people in poverty or families with children can be placed into a low income apartment. Housing Stability Services operates a homeless prevention - rehousing program. There is emergency help for people with an eviction, including government grants to pay back rent or utilities.
