Bradley County TN Catholic Charities emergency assistance programs.

Providing basic needs, such as food and clothing, are a focus of the Bradley County Catholic Charities. The charity provides support across the county and eastern parts on the state.

After an assessment has been done by the applicant, Catholic Charity churches may try to provide the family with basic needs in an effort to help them make it through a crisis. All of the programs available in Bradley County are first come and served, and only a small number of clients will be able to qualify for help.

As part of this process, the family will need to show the ability to find and maintain self-sufficiency. Staff from Catholic Charities of Bradley County and Eastern Tennessee will focus their aid on addressing a crisis only. The support is meant to help people with an unexpected emergency situation. However there are also immigration services and resources for single moms and women who survived domestic violence as well as help for pregnant females.

Food and hunger prevention programs in Bradley County

Residents of the area that are facing hunger can try the food pantry or soup kitchen / Cafe service known as Hope Kitchen. The goal will be to combine more short term assistance with longer term support. The centers are open to the general public, if they meet income and other qualifications. The volunteers that partner with Catholic Charity churches in Bradley County will serve free hot meals in a restaurant-style setting. There may be bread, chicken, salad, and similar goods. The delicious meals they serve are prepared on-site.

The smiling staff not only prepare a meal, but they will take time to sit and refer the person to long term support services. Much of this meal service is run in partnership with other agencies in Bradley County Catholic Charities. Donations come from restaurants, grocery stores, and the like.

A food bank is used to provide boxes of donate groceries to the needy. Catholic Charities will try to provide non-perishable food to the less fortunate in the community.

 

 

 

Any aid provided will also be first-come, first-served basis. This is only done by appointment only. In most cases, the people that use the pantry will need to have some sort of income as well as a verifiable work schedule.

Basic needs and clothing from Catholic Charities

Additional basic needs, such as holiday and a Christmas Gift Shop, are for the community. There is also a Pregnancy Help Center. Catholic Charities of Bradley County will also try to arrange free school supplies or uniforms for those that need them. Parents who qualify for assistance from one of these resources are invited to choose their children’s clothing for school or gifts with grace. Catholic Charities Bradley County clothing closet may also be able to provide Household Items. The center is available to those in need that meet income conditions. Although space and inventory is always limited at the clothing bank, the non-profit will have an assortment of clothing on site.

Individuals in need from across Bradley County, that qualify, can get help. Not only that, but Catholic Charities will work to find donations of furniture or other needed supplies to aid families in setting up their new homes. The pregnancy center will also give diapers, counseling services, formula and other goods.

Finding a job is critical to ending the cycle of poverty. Therefore, Catholic Charities in Eastern Tennessee offers a CHAP service, known as Columbus Home Assisting People. It offers education and case management. Catholic Charities will try to arrange transportation to people to attend appointments or job interviews. This depends on funds and the work of volunteers.

In some instances, bus tokens are given to those individuals who are trying to get to local job interviews. Or a volunteer that is part of Catholic Charities may offer them a ride in Bradley County. In other instances, gas vouchers, train, or low cost or free bus tickets are provided in some situations.

When it comes to emergency assistance from Catholic Charities in Bradley County, this is very limited. Most of the grants will be for families with a source of income and that can provide they can pay future bills on their own. The church works with the state and federal government to help immigrants as well as refugees. There is reunification programs. Immigrants can get help naturalizing or information on Green Cards. There are programs for DACA kids as well as other resources.

When seeking any type of help, the applicant must meet qualifications. This includes they need to be the head of household and have identification for all household members, such as a valid drivers license with picture or state of Tennessee ID.
