Area Agency on Aging in Northwest Arkansas assistance programs.

There are several services run directly by the Area Agency on Aging in Northwest Arkansas. Not only that, but they also offer information to clients, who will be senior citizens and the disabled, to help them address any challenges they have. Assistance is available across several counties, including Baxter, Marion, Benton, Washington, Newton, and others.

Information on senior services and financial help

Receive referrals and advice. This is part of the Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Arkansas’ Information and Assistance Program. It helps senior citizens connect with other agencies providing relevant services and benefits, with priority given to those who have limited incomes. Another priority is on assisting applicants with physical or mental impairments. The focus is on helping elderly people as well as the disabled in Northwest Arkansas that need financial help immediately. This can include older people over the age of 55, retirees, and those who are considered to be elderly.

Housing assistance is available to older, low-income residents of Northwest Arkansas as well. This is available through a number of agencies that partner together to address rental needs and homelessness. These groups all provide financial assistance with rental expenses or help seniors find special housing for their age group. Income and eligibility requirements may vary from one agency to another.

The only community-based home-delivered meals program in the region, the Area Agency on Aging in Northwest Arkansas Meals on Wheels, supports the nutrition and health of homebound seniors and disabled individuals. It is mostly run by volunteers that have the goal of helping them remain independent and in their own homes rather than being prematurely institutionalized.

The meals served in counties such as Benton meet one-third of the USDA Recommended Dietary Allowance of nutrients for older Americans. The food will also be low in fat, sodium, and calories. The agencies Meals on Wheels clients have come to rely on paid staff as well as the dedicated volunteers who are delivery drivers for not only daily delivery of nutritious meals, but also for the regular visits.

Home care and respire from Area Agency on Aging in Northwest Arkansas

Professional care and supervision for adults aged 60 and over as well as the disabled is available through the Area Agency on Aging’s Adult Day Care Services. There are highly trained staff and volunteers that take part in this service.

 

 

 

The goal is to help the client maintain a safe environment in which participants are given the opportunity to interact with peers and engage in planned activities of their own choosing. Some of the workshops and activities can include music, exercise, crafts, games, counseling and rest. There is also food at centers in Boone and Baxter County, such as free morning and afternoon snacks and a hot lunch. Transportation may be available to a center on a limited basis.

The Personal Care Program’s certified in-home aides assist those who are chronically ill, disabled or frail with the daily activities of life. The Northwest Arkansas Aging on Aging will arrange for grooming, toileting, bathing, free meal preparation, and light housekeeping. Program aides work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Medical, health, and legal aid from Agency on Aging in NW Arkansas

The State of Arkansas (and federal government supported) Senior Health Insurance Information Program offers the elderly and those with disabilities free health insurance counseling. There are also workshops held by staff that offer answers to important questions about Medicare, Medicare supplemental insurance, long-term care insurance, and related issues. Volunteers will also work with the client to help them Understanding Physician and Hospital Bills, HMO Plans, and more.

Lawyers from the Legal Aid of Arkansas are a key partner. This non-profit handle all types of problems, with the exception of criminal matters and fee-generating cases. To be eligible for these free legal services, an applicant’s income level must be at or below 125 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. The program serves Benton, Boone, Carroll, Marion, Baxter, Newton, Searcy, Madison and Washington Counties in northwest Arkansas. Find other free lawyers in Arkansas.

 

 

 

 

Developmental Disabilities Services assist clients with autism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy and intellectual disabilities. The program collaborates with respite services, group homes, human development centers, supervised apartments in Fayetteville, work programs, and local day centers to provide opportunities for this segment of the population.

The Area Agency on Aging’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman responds to the complaints, concerns and problems of nursing home and residential care facility residents and their families. In addition, the ombudsman, who is experienced in these matters, monitors the care provided in these facilities to ensure that the needs of the residents are met.
