Arapahoe County area St. Vincent de Paul assistance programs.

Society of Saint Vincent de Paul parishes in Arapahoe County provide assistance to the needy. There is a regional SVDP Help Line for information on free food or hot meals; housing, rent or utility bill help; transportation; homeless shelters; clothes and much more. Many of the Saint Vincent parishes are both for Arapahoe County as well as the larger community and city.

Volunteers and donations to churches including Queen of Peace, St. Mary Magdalene and Good Shepard keep the SVDP going and funded. Whether food or a few dollars, the parishes work to help low income applicants also need to agree to a home visit as well as other guidance.

Food Bank and Clothing Programs are run by the parishes. The main goal is to have no one in their service area of Arapahoe County go hungry and even die of starvation. Clothes and hygiene supplies will also work to help keep them warm and give say kids confidence (as they are clothed for school). Other objectives are to have no child in the of Arapahoe County region go hungry and feed the elderly.

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul in Arapahoe County, including Good Shepard, will meet these goals by providing everyone who meets federal poverty guidelines, if it is requested, a free box of food or clothes. Others with now job, the homeless, or more moderate income families in the region can also apply for free food. Or find other free clothing banks in Arapahoe County.

This program works as because every day the volunteers pack and deliver dozens of boxes of groceries. Each "box" contains pounds of canned and/or fresh food per person and is enough for three days. That means, each clients receives enough for multiple meals, including breakfasts, lunches, and dinners.

There are also other basic needs from the parishes including Good Shephard. The Saint Vincent can provide basic needs including, but not limited too, gasoline vouchers; blankets for the homeless; vouchers for motels; medications and more. Arapahoe County Society of Saint Vincent emergency help

When applying for financial help from the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul parishes, the client should have a Photo ID for all adults and children in the household. Many of the parishes will require a volunteer from the charity to visit the home or apartment of the applicant as well to assess the financial need as well as give an on site interview. This, and more proof of need, is needed before anyone will be given assistance.

When facing hunger, emergency food bags are given to low income households, seniors, and the working poor who live in the vicinity of the parish(es) and throughout the county. A bag of groceries will last anywhere from 2-7 days, depending on how many donations are in the cupboard. A household is eligible to receive this assistance once every 90 days at most, unless there is a disaster such as a fire or flood.

In a crisis, there may be financial aid available for paying a small portion of household bills, whether rent, mortgages, utilities or heat. All of this is limited based on the parish and the ]applications relationship to it. The Saint Vincent de Paul of Arapahoe County can cover expenses such as rent, heating, or energy bills, as those are focused on stopping homelessness. While not an exact form of money, there are free clothing vouchers to use at the thrift store, or when that can't help, a gift card is passed out. Clothing vouchers are good for work and school items too.

Other support includes referral services and budgeting/nutrition workshops. They also give many other referrals including legal support or information on restaurants near you with free food for the poor or homeless, as companies and eateries often give back too. No matter the request, every effort will be made to meet it.
