Washington County Utah Salvation Army assistance programs.

Free food, Christmas toys, and school supplies is just some of what the Salvation Army in Washington County Utah offers. The charity organization also provides cash grants for rent or utilities, services including case management, overnight shelter, free back to school supplies or Christmas gifts and can even coordinate substance abuse help for people from St. George battling an addiction. The number of resources are wide ranging.

Basic needs, including shelter

The charity organization is involved in providing stuff to low income households, those caught in a disaster such as a fire or floor, and families in crisis. The items given out from the Salvation Army center in St. George come from many different places. The charity uses the thrift store as well as food pantry. In some cases free vouchers can be given to shop at the thrift store, and this is in effect free items for the client.

Another way the Salvation Army assists is by coordinating shelter for its guests. This can often benefit the homeless of course. If there is room in the shelter, then they can be given a bed to sleep in for a night or two. Or the charity may also serve them a meal, provide an article of clothing, and help the individual find job/long term housing and other support.

The shelter, basic needs such as free food from the pantry, and more are also for families that have hit a hard time in their life. It also tends to benefit more vulnerable groups. Those examples may be veterans or say single moms or women who survived domestic violence. The Salvation Army in Washington County Utah helps people of all backgrounds, races, and religions.

Additional seasonal basic needs are given out. To this end, the Salvation Army may provide everything from free toys, clothing, meals, and gifts at Christmas or Thanksgiving to school supplies for low income families. There are also volunteers that visit senior citizens in S. George or deliver holiday food to the homebound.

This will be for a crisis only, and if the family has no other resources available. Applicants also need the ability to sustain future payments for their bills on their own.

Some other critical expenses may be paid too. As part of disaster relief, maybe a voucher to pay for a motel room for a night or two is given. Or if a sick, uninsured resident needs critical prescription medications, then vouchers may be given for that type of cost. Other uses of the financial aid from the St. George may be for gasoline for work, small critical care repairs, or unusual housing expenses.
