Salvation Army and United Way assistance programs Kosciusko County

The Salvation Army center in Warsaw Indiana provides assistance to the low income in all of Kosciusko County. The location not only offers innovate solutions such as school clothing and free supplies but they also operate more traditional free food pantries in the community. Another focus is on children in Kosciusko County, and the kids camp and summer camp are two other Salvation Army services.

The charity tries to do the most good in the region by providing the less fortunate with information on short term financial aid as well as help them get on the path to stability. The social services are in effect a Hand-Up to the needy in the community, especially when it comes to the Kosciusko as well as school School Supply programs or free Christmas gifts from Angel Tree.

A combination of non-food items as well as groceries are passed out monthly from the client choice pantry. This Kosciusko County Salvation Army program is used to battle hunger and poverty in the region. It not only helps feed children and those residents facing a crisis, but the elderly may also have a box of food delivered to them as well.

The model allows the client to select what they need. The Salvation Army location in Warsaw Indiana will give out baby formula, diapers, soap, shampoo, and other items. But the focus is always on food and feeding the hungry and working poor.

There are three main Kosciusko County Salvation Army programs for children. They include Angel Tree, which offer free gifts and presents at Christmas. Other assistance includes a summer camp and KidsClub, which is a place for students to go after school.

All of these Salvation Army programs are for the youth in the community. Whether there is a new baby, or someone in their teenage years, they can get meals, free Christmas toys, summer snacks, and access to day care for their needs.

Programs such as Summer Camp not only help the parents by ensuring their kids have a meal and a place to go to to learn, but social workers also help with character development. The Warsaw Salvation Army teachers and volunteers serve as mentors for these kids, and ensure they have guidance given to them as well.

The main center is located in Warsaw Indiana, zip code of 46581. To apply for support, call the Salvation Army at 574-267-5361.

United Way resources

These are not part of the Salvation Army, but are partner programs. The United Way can offer referrals emergency rental assistance. In some cases, a partial mortgage payment may be made too. Anyone seeking financial help for their housing needs to have either an eviction or foreclosure notice from their landlord/bank. There will only be funding to income qualified Kosciusko County residents at most once every 2 years, so the program is very limited in scope and capacity. This is only a referral service that the Salvation Army partner with the United Way on.

Another United Way service is on energy bill help. This is also part of the Kosciusko County homeless prevention services. As all groups, including the United Way and Salvation Army, want to stop evictions and utility disconnections in the community.

This United Way initiated program is focused on stopping homelessness as well as evictions in the community. There are other agencies that also work with the Kosciusko County United Way that may have money for rent or energy bills, and the Salvation Army can refer clients to them.

Consideration for a cash grant may be given to persons who are behind on their housing or heating bills. But any amount of financial aid that The Salvation Army can provide is limited to usually a few hundred dollars at most.

Worx is a program for students as well as job seekers in the community. The United Way will help them get the supplies, such as uniforms for children, that they need for school. Another service, which is just called Kosciusko Worx, may offer free work boots, suits, uniforms, and dresses to those looking for a job.
