Assistance from Volunteers of America Delaware Valley.

A key housing agency is the Volunteers of America Delaware Valley. They offer a number of resources for the homeless, people behind on their rent, veterans, and others. The non-profit runs assistance programs across the states of New Jersey, Delaware, and parts of Pennsylvania.

Community Housing and Supportive Services will work with clients towards the goal of stability. This division will focus on self-sufficiency and development through offering social services, running shelters, and making transitional housing available. The non-profits Housing and Supportive Services Division helps clients to overcome factors that might lead to homelessness. Addressing the specific needs of each individual is in focus.

As noted, both proactively preventing and ending homelessness of individuals and families is one the major goals of Volunteers of America Delaware Valley. The center will engage the homeless population first. At that point the case managers from Volunteers of America Delaware Valley stay with those individuals and families until they gain independence and self-sufficiency.

Housing and rent assistance may be coordinated with those supportive services. This is the pro-active approach. Also, temporary and emergency housing through Safe Haven and the Family Shelter programs are available in the state of New Jersey and Delaware Valley. Transitional Living programs offer specialized housing and apartments for men, children, women, and families.

Veterans can look into Home for the Brave. Those homeless veterans and their families can benefit from the over 20 bed housing program. A great number of concerns, financial challenges and life circumstances of veterans may cause them to lead to homelessness. It is often necessary for them to work with others in order to find help.

Studies show that behavioral health issues, disabilities, incarceration, and poor employment history are major factors causing homelessness for veterans. Volunteers of America Delaware Valley and Home for the Brave offers individual support for each client who wishes to achieve self-sufficiency and independence in the future.

 

 

 

Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program, or HVRP, will provide employment services to participants. Services available include resume creation, job search, interviewing skills training, etc. Purchasing work clothes, tools and licenses and other items necessary for employment are included as well. The program is funded through the federal government and the United States Department of Labor.

Amani House is for single homeless men. It works by  by offering them access to a 26-bed transitional housing facility. Enabling the residents to achieve self-sufficiency and independence is the goal of Volunteers of America Delaware Valley. Additionally, finding and keeping permanent employment and housing is another objective of Amani House program.

The house also serves as a supportive housing program that provides a great number of services like assessment and career counseling, service/treatment planning, workshops, and free intensive case management. The residents of Amani House have the opportunity to attend programs at other non-profit agencies nearby during the day. Agape House is temporary housing and case management. It is for homeless people. Clients can get shelter, free food, clothing, child enrichment and low cost transportation are also included in the free services. The address is 122-128 E. Main Street, Somerville, NJ. Phone 908.707.9753.

Aletha R. Wright "Vision of Hope" Center is for single adult homeless men. They may be qualified clients for this Transitional Living Program, located in the commercial shipping hub of Camden New Jersey. Clients can access basic needs, life skills, employment opportunities and low income housing. 271 Atlantic Avenue, Camden, New Jersey, 856.966.0909.

Families can look into Eleanor Corbett House. The non-profit Volunteers of America Delaware Valley provides temporary housing for families and individuals through the facility. It provides many services and assistance to its residents such as workshops, free daily meals and transportation. The address of this house is 355 Union Street, Glassboro, NJ. Anna Sample Complex is for evicted and homeless families. They are entitled to use the services of Transitional Housing program, Anna Sample Complex. It provides beds and residence for homeless. The main goal of the program is helping women in achieving employment, self- sufficiency and independency. Case managers offer supervision, case management and job counseling.

Other resources from the complex offer variety of services like drug and alcohol awareness, life skills workshops, recreational enrichment, and even parenting and life skills. A referral network is also available. 408-416 Line Street, Camden, NJ, 856.963.0430.
