Toco Hills Community Allianc assistance programs.

The Toco Hills Community Alliance can help meet the basic needs of families facing a crisis, with the main resource being a free food pantry. The charity helps the low income in Atlanta, and the church will participate in assisting the low income, homeless, and poor in the region. Resources are offered in an emergency, such as funds for paying rent, energy bills, food, transitional housing, and other needs.

Financial assistance may be offered to help with paying rent, mortgage or utility bills. The goal is to assist families that are facing an eviction or shut off of their electricity. The applicant needs to be facing a crisis, such as an unexpected job loss, medical emergency, or death in the family. Only a portion of the qualified applicants rent or energy bill will be paid.

Toco Hills Community Alliance operates a food pantry that. The center will distribute non-perishable items, such as canned food, meats, and other household items. Both low income and homeless families can get help. Other items passed out may include personal hygiene kits and snacks. Donations are always needed, so please contribute if you can.

Workplace clothing may be distributed. The charity may help newly hired workers receive uniforms, professional work attire, equipment, and more that they may need for a job. Also people looking for employment may use Toco Hills Community Alliance computers to access the Internet and prepare resumes for the purpose of applications and online job searches. Some homeless people may receive a very short term motel voucher when they start a new job.

The Transitional Housing Program can help homeless families in Atlanta become stable again. The charity will offer them more secure and safe housing. Clients can also gain workshops and classes such as personalized case management, money management education and other support social services for 18-24 months. Clients who use the transitional housing will need to save a portion of their income towards paying down debts and general savings. Matching grants may be provided too. At the end of the program, staff will help people locate more permanent housing in Fulton or DeKalb County and maybe even help with paying security deposits or rent.

A homeless prevention program is offered. The goal is to help qualified low-income workers avoid eviction and regain long term financial stability. Staff from the agency take a pro-active approach to preventing evictions and homelessness. Those families will also be able to enroll into long-term strategies, credit classes and gain general education in an effort to avoid similar situations in the future.

Short term assistance is offered for paying rent and utility bills may be offered by the program. Participants need to agree to make long term improvements in their financial situation and focus on saving and debt reduction. If they abide by terms of the program, Toco Hills Community Alliance may be able to help people stay in their home or apartment.

A Money Management service runs for 20 week stretches. It can help families develop the skills they need and also learn about long term strategies for managing their household finances. Couches and staff will work with clients to help them put lessons into practice.

Seasonal assistance, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Back to School programs, are run by Toco Hills Community Alliance.

The Christmas resources include Adopt a Family and the Toys store. Parents can receive gift certificates or vouchers for buying toys and gifts. Or for the Adopt a Family, generous neighbors from across Atlanta sign up to purchase gifts and even decorations for all entire families. Clothing, toys, and gifts are donated by local churches, individuals and businesses.

During Thanksgiving, free gift certificates are passed out so people can buy turkeys, perishable items and more along with all the fixings. The certificates can help them buy all they need to enjoy a happy Thanksgiving meal.

School items include Clothing Giveaways, backpacks, supplies, and even items for prom. Toco Hills Community Alliance and its churches give away outfits, shoes, socks, notebooks, backpacks, and more. The charity also partners with high schools to pass out free tuxedos, Prom dresses and accessories to low income and at-risk girls and boys from the Atlanta area.

The charity also operates the thrift store. For the lowest income members of the region, they may receive free items and basic needs. Others from the Atlanta area can shop at the store and buy items at a reduced cost. Everything sold will be affordable. The clothing, household goods, and other items are all available for sale to the general public and any profits are used to pay for the Toco Hills Community Alliance financial aid programs.
