Titus, Camp, and Morris County assistance programs.

In an effort to help low income and/or struggling families, there is financial help in Titus, Morris and nearby counties. The main places for rent assistance, grants to pay security deposits, utility or water bills, shelter, free clothes and food are below. The list of financial assistance programs in the region, including Titus and Camp County, or free stuff includes churches, non-profits, government agencies, and even HUD counselors (for mortgage or security deposit help) as well as free dental and community clinics.

Financial aid for bills and rental costs

Community Services of Northeast Texas is maybe the primary organization to contact. The non-profit is part of the nationwide network, and they are involved in administered a number of assistance programs for the less fortunate. Most of what the agency does is referral people to resources for rent or housing in Titus or other counties. They also offer food and government grants, such as LIHEAP.

  • Energy bill programs – Very low income families and those in poverty can apply for LIHEAP or weatherization.
  • Hunger prevention - Community Services will direct residents to pantries in Morris, Camp, and other counties.
  • Apply for government benefits – This can range from SNAP food stamps to loans, housing or rent subsidy programs such as section 8, and these can also be used to stop evictions.
  • Education – Staff will both provide guidance on completing GEDs and refer people to employment programs.
  • Referrals - Case managers have details on other social services in the NE Texas region.

The community action agency also offers many other services. They will help clients apply for jobs, or assist the homeless with security deposits. Since all resources are limited, some clients will be directed to loan programs. More information on Community Services of Northeast Texas.

 

 

 

 

Titus County Cares is a multifaceted charity for Titus County only. The faith based group offers financial assistance from a Good Samaritan program. This can include money for rent or energy bills and more. Other assistance from the churches that are part of the group include free food or discount prescription cards. Christmas gifts and meals are also served during the holidays. Call 903-575-9157, or find details on programs from Titus County Cares.

Central Christian Church also offers emergency aid in counties such as Morris.  The phone number is 903-342-5883. Resources may be vouchers for gasoline or motel vouchers. There are also medications and other forms of support available.

Camp County Veterans Benefits will help military members and families apply for housing, food, government grants and other entitlements. The goal is to ensure veterans get all the benefits they deserve. Location is 115 North Street Suite H in Palestine.

Housing Authorities can help residents apply for section 8 vouchers and also low income, public housing or apartments. The main office is at 400 Broach Street, Pittsburg, Texas, 75686-1075, 903-856-3760.

Food and medical care services

East Texas Food Bank works with local pantries and non-profits. They are involved in collecting food, then given it to these other agencies. The staff also support local soup kitchens. However, the main center can also referrals to struggling families. Dial 903-597-3663 for intake.

DADS offers low cost delivery of meals to the disabled as well as senior citizens. The client can't be able to afford their own meal, and needs to also be low income or in poverty. The address is 303 E 11th St, Mt. Pleasant, Texas, 75455-0000, or call the office at 903-577-4608.

 

 

 

God's Closet in Pittsburg offers food, holiday meals, and clothing. They cover basic needs. 129 Jefferson Street, and call 903-253-8558.

Titus Regional Medical Center can coordinate medical care for the indigent. They need to lack health insurance and also meet low income guidelines. Everything from check ups to prescription medications are available, and this clinic also helps residents of  Morris and Camp.
