Assistance programs from Tehama County Community Action Agency.

Assistance from the Tehama County Community Action Agency is extensive. The non-profit, which is often referred to as TCAA, can help low income families and seniors meet their basic needs. Short term support, such as rent, food, and energy bill help is provided at the same time as self-sufficiency. The long term support will be job search assistance, credit counseling and education. Some of the aid is provided from referrals and other programs are administered directly by the Tehama County Community Action Agency.

In some years, Tehama County Community Action Agency receives grants from the Emergency Food and Shelter Program. The federal government may offer funds from FEMA to provide emergency safety-net services. The aid is for the working poor and the low-income families and individuals in Tehama County. The government grants are dispersed to non-profit agencies that contribute towards providing emergency food and housing in the local community.

Rent, security deposits, and other housing expense assistance is arranged by the Tehama Community Action Agency. The non-profit contributes funds or referrals for low-income families. They are offered resources and financial aid that are developed to help get permanent and safe housing.

The TCAA also ties up with HUD as well as other agencies to refer people to programs that can help people with paying for low-income housing, utility payments, rents and security deposits.  Another key partner is the Plumas County Community Development Commission, which supports eligible households and they can receive a housing assistance payment made directly to a landlord for a privately-leased rental unit. 530-527-6159.

The Tehama County Community Action Agency is heavily involved in administering the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance programs. It offers opportunities and counseling to help the low-income families secure the estimated $2 million that goes unclaimed in Tehama County from the federal government Earned Income Tax Credit.

Financial literacy courses for low-income individuals including the topics of Banking, Assets and Credit Counseling. The Tehama County Community Action Agency offers resource, information and financial literacy courses by appointment or even through Internet classes and workshops. Some of the key partners in developing these skills includes National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE).

Several non-profit agencies work with the Tehama County Community Action Agency and they partner together to connect clients to financial and credit education programs. Other services offered are budgeting classes, debt counseling and information regarding creating financial assets for low-income individuals or families by opening free bank accounts. A service known as Money Smart is a Financial Education Program for low and moderate income individuals and is operated by the community action agency. Money Smart actually is a comprehensive financial education program designed to guide working poor, low-income and moderate-income individuals who do not belong to the financial mainstream. Counselors will work with clients and help them enhance their financial skills and to also enable them to create strong banking relationships.

Senior Nutrition Program will serve free nutritious meals that are tasty and healthy. They are prepared and served from the kitchen in Red Bluff California and give seniors the opportunity to foster new relationships and friendships with others in the community in a warm and welcoming environment. Those income qualified seniors, who are physically or mentally challenged and are aged 60 or above may qualify for free home delivered meals.

Referrals from the Tehama County Community Action Agency (TCAA) are available. The agency acts as a referral center for the low-income families. Clients can get access to resources such as rental assistance, emergency food and shelter, LIHEAP, credit counseling, family support, free legal services, low-income housing, weatherization programs, education services, employment training, food stamps, health care, and much more.

As part of this process, a Resource Coordinator/Family Support Aide with Tehama County CAA is available to assist families that meet low-income levels. They can get help through the Family Support Program with resources for affordable child care, education, employment, housing needs and other support.





Job Training Center in Red Bluff California provides job search assistance, human resource programs, hiring and training to local businesses. It is a nonprofit, private organization based in Tehama County California whose main mission is to provide unlimited employment opportunities to job seekers.
