Utility bill assistance in Surry County

Yokefellow is a non-profit organization that may be able to provide the low income and other needy individuals with electric and water bill payment assistance. The maximum amount of assistance per applicant is capped at $100. Utility bill assistance disbursed is limited to eight households per week at most. Mount Airy NC (336) 789-5838

TriCCCMinistry is another option for people in the community. It will only help people who have a disconnection notice, and in those cases they may be able to provide up to $200 in financial assistance per 12-month period (calendar year does not matter) and the money can be used to pay a power or water bill. Yadkin Valley Economic Development District, Inc.

This is the local Surry County community action agency. They offer several different services, counseling and financial assistance programs.

Grant programs - Financial grants may be available to pay for education, schooling, housing, rent expenses, energy, clothing for jobs (uniforms), funds that can assist with payments on cars, physicals for employment, counseling services, energy bills, and other essential supportive services to the low income. Job programs and career enhancements - The agency can provide job search, resume services and transportation service to participants in the various programs. They agency may even be able to provide mileage reimbursement for job search and other career activities to and from work from people looking for work.

 

 

 

 

Weatherization - Clients can save money on their electric, utility, heating, and cooling bills from weatherization. The program is currently focusing on weatherizing homes of elderly, disabled, and low-income persons in the community. The Heating Air Repair and Replacement program can also replaces appliances, cooling, and heating units.

Other assistance - Some of the other programs offered by the community action agency include Head Start, Senior Programs, Transportation, and much more.

Non-financial aid

Foothills Food Pantry is a location that has been in operation for about 21 years, and they provide an emergency food distribution and they are an agency that is serving low income and other needy residents of Surry County who are food insecure or who need short term help. Dobson (336) 386-8405

Pilot Mountain Outreach Food Pantry (phone 336) 368-4907) is a non-profit that provides 10 days worth of free food and/or groceries to qualifying families who live in the designated areas surrounding Pilot Mountain North Carolina. Food can be received at most once every 60 days unless circumstances dictate otherwise. Click here for more food assistance programs.
