St. Landry Parish SVDP emergency assistance programs.

For residents of the greater St. Landry Parish community that are in a crisis, SVDP may be able to assist. The St. Landry Catholic Church agency has a formal process for seeking help, and all applicants must provide certain requisite information to qualify for resources. Also, all applications for assistance must be completed in person as the agency has limited funds.

Financial help, food or medical from SVDP St. Landry Parish

The St. Vincent de Paul Society St. Landry has information on health as well as dental clinics. They provide either free or lower priced care, often using a sliding fee scale, with partners. These services are offered to uninsured adults who reside in the service territory of St. Landry Parish. In order to use the services of a community clinic, proof of income or need is not required to make use of the centers.

The dental clinic employs a part-time hygienist as well as dentist, and as such, appointments are available during daytime hours. This will only be offered a few times per month at most. Services include basic dental exams, cleanings, X-rays, extractions, and restorative and emergency dental care.

The medical clinic uses volunteer doctors, RN, and others. This center will of course provide basic medical care. Doctors treat patients suffering from flu, colds, rashes, and other minor ailments or illnesses. There may be free immunizations for children or students in St. Landry Parish. Other medial care may include X-ray, emergency, and referrals to Laboratory and hospitals. Lastly, the local Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) program may receive monetary aid for medically necessary prescription medications.

Saint Vincent de Paul St. Landry Parish emergency services are available to low-income individuals and families who are facing eviction from their home or apartment. This is designed for people who are at least 30 days late on rent payments and have been served a written eviction notice from their landlord.

In order to receive financial aid for a portion of rent payments, individuals must have a source of income derived from employment, Social Security assistance,  unemployment benefits, the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, a pension or other means. Any work compensated for in cash is not an acceptable income source when requesting support from SVDP in .Landry Parish.

 

 

 

SVDP Landry Parish issues motel vouchers for recently evicted families so they have a place to stay for a night or so while they find alternative accommodations. These vouchers are available on a limited basis, and applicants can make use of this service for a very limited number of nights per year. Motel vouchers are distributed on the condition that applicants meet with a family development specialist.

Transitional housing is a program that provides permanent, supportive housing for adults who would otherwise be homeless. The properties available are divided into several different group homes. All clients of Society of Saint Vincent de Paul and St. Thomas More Church will also need to participate in case management services as they work towards individualized goals for greater self-sufficiency.

Many of the people who stay in these housing units are employed or just about to start a job. Others are involved in local Saint Landy Parish vocational programs. More than half of  clients eventually move into more independent housing. This is all offered as part of  is part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Individuals and families in need of subsidies for paying for any of their rent or energy expenses can turn to Society of Saint Vincent St .Landry Parish for help. Rental assistance is offered to households whose income is no more than 200% of the poverty level as part of section 8. Eligible households must also have sufficient income to meet ongoing expenses. Applicants can find resources to help them also pay with first month’s rent costs, security deposits or overdue payments.

St. Thomas More Church SVDP conservation as well as weatherization services make homes more energy-efficient, thereby reducing consumption and monthly utility bills. Weatherization makes homes warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.

Contractors, using federal funds, will provide for attic and sidewall insulation, furnace repair or replacement, air leakage reduction, water heater insulation and conduct health and safety inspections. Most of weatherization is for residential units constructed prior to the 1980s. Another focus is on households with children under the age of six. More details on weatherization in Louisiana.

The Saint Vincent de Paul Landry Parish emergency food program distributes packages comprising a seven-day supply of nutritious groceries to needy families. Households receive an amount of food proportional to family size, however the average emergency package consists of six bags of groceries.

 

 

 

 

Donated food, paper goods, personal care items and cleaning supplies are included in the packages. If funding is available, eggs, soup, meat and fresh produce may be also be provided. St. Landy Parish community members can receive food packages up to 12 times per year. Eligibility is determined by income level. Holiday support is offered too. Saint Vincent De Paul provides food packages for Thanksgiving as well as Christmas as well.
