Seminole County Community Action Agency (SCCA) Assistance Programs.

With a focus on assisting the less fortunate and working poor in Seminole County, the local agency known as SCCA provides resources as available to qualified applicants. There is mostly assistance for basic needs such as shelter, food, health or child care, education, housing, and transportation for people in need.

Emergency financial help from SCCA

Always under high demand is the Homeless Prevention Program, or SCHP. There may be funds available  for the purpose of assisting families with an eviction notice or the currently homeless in Seminole County Florida. Some examples of available resources includes short-term rent help, or for more medium-term assistance, there may be loans provided. Also, the community action agency may have one-time utility bill assistance and emergency housing or even motel vouchers.

Most of the aid from SCCA’s Prevention Assistance Program is to provide financial assistance with a partial rent payment. However, of secondary importance is money for partial mortgage or electric bill payments, and in any case, the funds are for eligible low and moderate-income households experiencing a onetime financial hardship. Therefore, when applying for help, each household is required to show proof that they will have the ability to manage their financial obligations on their own in the future.

Funds for both Rental Security and Utility Deposits may be offered, mostly in partnership with the Florida Housing Finance Corporation (FHFC), the Seminole County government and the State Housing Initiatives Partnership Program. The goal is to help Seminole County residents with locating safe, decent, and affordable low income apartments or housing in the community. More details on utility deposit assistance programs.

By helping with paying a deposit, the agency will make accessible housing that might otherwise be unavailable to them. Without this type of assistance, a good number of low-income or even unemployed residents become homeless, or are at high risk of evictions, because of difficulties with making rent, security deposits, or utility bill payments.

Yet another solution, SCCA Shelter Plus Care Program (S+C) receives annual funding from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. It is administered in partnership with the Central Florida Continuum of Care (CoC), and the purpose is to provide chronically homeless individuals and families with rental assistance and case management services.

The Seminole County Environmental Services Department’s Good Neighbor Fund is run by the non-profit agency. The organization makes use of funds donated by county residents or businesses to help unincorporated households experiencing financial hardship with paying water and/or sewer bills.

Burial help in Seminole County is offered by community action and its partners. The state of Florida law calls for the county to pay for this, and there is also reimbursement by a given county for emergency services provided to residents from another location.

The SCCA community action agency makes use of Community Development Block Grant public service funds to help with dental needs. The money from the government will assist eligible uninsured low-income households with accessing dental services, including , x-rays, extractions, fillings, cleanings, dentures, root canals, crowns, sedation, and consultations.

The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Employment service will assist eligible low-income or underemployed individuals in gaining skills, knowledge, and motivation necessary to achieve the goal of self-sufficiency. In addition to that, the government works to provide scholarship assistance with the tuition, books, or supplies for employment-related training courses.

Community Action Seminole County Veteran Assistance

SCCA’s Veterans Services Program provides information, quality supportive services, and advocacy to enhance the health and economic well-being of Seminole County veterans. There is also assistance for their families, dependents, survivors, and others.

Program officers and staff members assist military members and their families with a number of resources. It ranges from guidance on completing benefit claims, they offer transportation, employment, education, property tax exemptions, and burial. Other functions include public education, support with claims filed with the US Department of Veteran Affairs and staff work with clients on providing skills and tools for veterans to use in achieving self-sufficiency.

For the disabled and homebound, individuals from the community action agency will be traveling to the residences of veterans who cannot come into the offices themselves. They will bring applications to their home, answer questions, and offer other support. Find more help for veterans in Florida.
