Salvation Army assistance programs in Pocatello and Bannock County.

The Christian, faith based Salvation Army center in Pocatello Idaho can help low income families. They are involved in many different social services. The charity may have funds for paying rent or energy bills; after school care for children; feeding programs; clothing distribution as well as a thrift store; shelter; emergency disaster response; free Christmas toys or school supply items and much more. More details on these, and other assistance programs in the Bannock County region, are noted below.

Financial aid from social services

Based on funding from the government, United Way, and sales of items from the thrift store, there may be the following.

Housing – Some money from the Pocatello Salvation Army may help delay/stop homelessness. Mortgage or rent payments, deposits, and more.

Utilities – When a family or individual is faced with the loss of their heat, water, or electric, there may emergency funds available.

Work related expenses, which are critical to finding or keeping a job, may be partially paid by the Salvation Army in Bannock County. Money for gasoline, bus passes, gas vouchers, or even free work clothes from a clothing closet.

Food – The pantry may help in an emergency. Or clients can get help in applying for public aid, namely SNAP food stamps or USDA WIC vouchers.

Medical needs, ranging from vouchers to prescription drugs to a list of free community clinics in Bannock County.

Homeless Services – There is assistance for basic needs. This includes the distribution of sleeping bags, placement into a shelter, hot meals, clothing, information and referral.

Disaster relief – Members from the Salvation Army Bannock County office are often the first responders, and maybe the last to leave. A canteen may serve meals or give clothes. Then other needs for the long term may be met, including rapid rehousing.

Summer camps give students a safe and educational place to go during the summer. There is also a program for care givers, which would be someone watching a child such as a grand parent. Free meals, food, clothes, trips, and more are given to kids at these summer camps.

Case management

A core function of the faith based charity is to empower people from the community. A social worker will meet with the individual to go over their options for long term stability. Goals will be set and measured on a weekly/monthly basis.

The Pocatello Salvation Army will help support to people of all backgrounds. Residents leaving jail, domestic violence survivors, the unemployed, and single moms are just some of the clients. But anyone can seek help from the Case Management services.

If the client stays on track, and meets their goals, then some financial aid may be distributed during this process. This can help pay a critical bill that may be due. As an example, if the client is close to stability, but they are behind on their rent or need some gasoline for a job interview, then a grant may be approved. Each scenario is different.
