Pilgrims Inn emergency assistance programs.

While the focus of Pilgrims Inn is on helping individuals facing eviction or homelessness, there is other support offered as well to residents that need a home or apartment to live in. The non-profit assists York County residents with basic needs, including offering limited emergency financial assistance and other resources as noted below. A focus is on children, women, and single parents.

While they do try to provide short term financial aid, it will be combined with long term case management, applications to federal and state of South Carolina benefits, and other support. Helping with independence and stability is also a goal of Pilgrims Inn. They especially focus on households with children and are committed to breaking the cycle of poverty.

Short term housing from Pilgrims Inn

A Homeless Shelter is available in York County. Guests will have emergency lodging and access to other services, including information on federal government rapid rehousing. This includes free food or meals, home and personal care, classes on conflict resolution and budgeting, as well as medication management. In fact, much of that is mandatory.

The Pilgrims Inn shelter may also offer temporary child care to mothers and single parents. This will allow the parent to attend classes, find a job, and obtain stability. Other assistance may include financial assistance for the cost of medication, free medical or dental care, and more. Transportation may also be arranged in York County to and from medical or dental appointments, the pharmacy, job interviews, or similar activities.

Similar to above is the Dorothy Bing Homeless Shelter. This operates as emergency lodging for Women and Children only. It is available for people in York and even other counties in South Carolina. Guests may include those escaping domestic violence situations, single parents, the disabled, and working poor. The Dorothy Bing center may also offer emergency support such as free meals, medical services, clothing, and other basic needs.

 

 

 

Any residents also need to work with program staff to develop individual plans and stability goals. Pilgrims Inn case managers will outline their specific goals and objectives, and this may be additional education, help in finding affordable housing, employment, budgeting and more.

Transitional Housing Programs in York County include low cost apartment units. Pilgrims Inn will provide solutions to clients. This may also include permanent, supportive housing opportunities in York County for those individuals suffering from mental illness, disability or recurring homelessness. Referrals and previous shelter stay are normally required in order to enroll.

Also, anyone entering the transitional Housing Program will sign a one year lease. They will also need to meet other commitments, such as completing a GED, maintaining a job or maybe entering college. The Social Services Coordinator also partners with clients.

Pilgrim Inn emergency assistance in York County

Limited financial aid and other Emergency Assistance is possible, but very limited. It is offered on a one-off, exception basis. The assistance can include household supplies, food, furniture, clothing, one time partial rent help, and more. This is only offered at most once per quarter, however the elderly may have exceptions made for them. All applications are reviewed on a one off basis, and resources are limited. Holiday assistance includes hams and meals in December for Christmas. There will also be programs in November for Thanksgiving, such as Turkeys. They also partner with volunteers and other non-profits such as the Salvation Army on holiday gifts for children.

Other emergency aid in York County can be provided for groceries, meals, and food in partnership with the Second Harvest Food Bank. They also work with other local charities and civic groups in the region on these and other food programs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Open Arms Child Support Center works to prevent future evictions and homelessness. What Pilgrims Inn may provide includes access to low cost, affordable child care for mothers or single parents seeking employment. There may be some minimal costs needed to be paid by the parent though. There is also Early Childhood Development and social services for the parent. This can include shelter, case management, job training, and similar activities. Staff also partner with numerous non-profit and charity providers to ensure all of a clients’ needs are met.
