Free clothes, back to school supplies and furniture in and around Oakland County Michigan.

Lower income residents of the Oakland County region of Michigan may be able to receive free clothing, household goods, furniture, back to school supplies and other items from local charities. The assistance is available from a local clothing closet, church, furniture bank or even church.

The centers may have vouchers for free items for income qualified families or pass out the items themselves. There may be beds, year round clothes, appliances, and students can get free winter coats or supplies for school, including laptops. The locations in Oakland County Michigan and nearby community, such as Washtenaw, may also be able to sell items from thrift stores at a low cost to the general public, regardless of their income.

A wide variety of basic needs can be met. The free clothing and furniture centers also provide services to nearby counties as well, including Monroe and Washtenaw Michigan. Some of the items in highest demand include free clothing, winter coats, shoes, diapers, boots, birthday furniture for a home or apartment and toys and gifts. Since many of the clothing closets and furniture bank centers rely on donations and contributions, unfortunately they will not always have what you need. But volunteers and social workers do their best to meet the demands.

During the colder months, free hats, boots and winter coats may be offered. There are also school supplies, including shoes and backpacks, are always requested during the fall and winter. Other needs can be as diverse as, and include work attire, infant clothing, and furniture. Call a clothing closet or furniture bank in Oakland County to see if they can help.
