Learn where to get free food in New Haven County Connecticut. Find where to call or stop by for groceries, meals, personal hygiene supplies and assistance in an emergency. A number of free food banks, churches and pantries that may be near you, and that are open all hours including today, distribute groceries and other forms of support to individuals as well as families across the region. Many charities also operate Meals on Wheels services in New Haven.

There are also soup kitchens and government benefits available in New Haven. The listing of food pantries is below as well as a phone number at the bottom of the page for more programs.  All of these groups work together to give away free food in an emergency and help a family if someone is facing a short term hardship.

Salvation Army free food pantries and feeding sites in New Haven County
There are multiple locations, as noted below. There are free groceries (fresh food and canned items) as well as emergency financial help. The Salvation Army has pantries open most days of the week, including today and the weekends. There are also household items, laundry detergent, snacks for students and more. Free Thanksgiving turkey dinners and Christmas food baskets are offered too.

  • Greater Valley Corps Community Center, 26 Lester Street, Ansonia, Connecticut 06401. Call (203) 736-0707. In addition to running a food pantry, they administer other social service programs and can help with bills, rent, and other needs.
  • Salvation Army  New Haven Corps Community Center food bank is at 450 George Street, New Haven, CT 06511. Phone number - (203) 624-9891. Part of the nationwide charity network. A free food pantry, soup kitchen and other aid is available  They help immigrants, families in poverty, the elderly and others in New Haven as well. Special Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving turkey meals or veggies may also be offered at the pantry.
