While the food banks, pantries, and feeding sites in Milwaukee County rely on donations and excess government commodities, the pantries may have fresh produce, meats, canned goods, breads and various types of nutritional supplements. Most partner with the local Hunger Task Force. There are also many free soup kitchens in the Milwaukee County region for hot meals, including at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

The primary goal of the food pantries across Milwaukee is to both help someone make it through a difficult period, while at the same time improving the health of low-income people, children and senior citizens, especially those who are at risk of malnutrition. The distribution centers allow individuals the ability to pick up a monthly box of groceries from a location near them, whether it is a church or an emergency food pantry. Some centers even provide holiday and Christmas meals or gifts. For additional help, find other charities for free stuff.
