A combination of thrift stores, free furniture banks and clothing closets in Madison County Illinois help very low income families. They may be able to receive a voucher for free items, such as clothes, school supplies, toys, furniture for their home or apartment or household products. The other option is a thrift store, and those are available for anyone to use to buy gently used items.

There are several sites in Madison County. Almost all of them combine the distribution of free clothes, appliances, furniture or other stuff with raising money from the sale of goods at the thrift store for the community. The centers mostly uses donations from the public, so if anyone wants to drop off items that can be done. The inventory may include some or all of the following. But each Madison County non-profit will vary in what is passed out.

  • Winter clothes – boots, winter hats or jackets, gloves, and free jackets for kids.
  • Household supplies for cleaning.

There are also seasonal programs, such as Christmas toys, games, school supplies including backpacks, and more. Whether beds or mattresses for kids, desks, refurbished computers, couches, living room furniture, appliances or something else, the furniture bank tries to help.
