Little Rock and Pulaski County homeless prevention.

Several charities, non-profits, and government agencies in Little Rock Arkansas as well as the county offer homeless prevention services. There is assistance for renters, homeowners, single moms, veterans, the homeless, and anyone in need of affordable housing. Find how to get help from groups including Our House, partners of the United Way, Pulaski County's Community Services Department and the government affiliated Homeless Services Advocate.

Much of the funding to pay for rent arrears, homeless shelters, rapid rehousing, and other services is provided by HUD. They will allocate grants to Pulaski County every year, and the agencies that receive those grants provide homeless prevention help to the less fortunate.

Homeless prevention in Pulaski County

There are at least 6 different parts of this. They include the following:

Free legal aid and mediation – This is free to tenants or homeowners. Lawyers and impartial mediators work with the client and landlord/mortgage holder.

ESG grants/financial help – Federal government funds can help pay for housing costs, utilities, rent, security deposits, lot rent, storage costs and more. In very limited cases may some of a mortgage be paid. Pulaski County's Community Services Department is a main agency involved here.

Moving – When a Little Rock home or apartment is unaffordable, the agencies may help the client move into transitional housing then back to a permanent place that is more sustainable.

Veteran homeless prevention – Any veterans in Pulaski County get priority from one of 2 programs, and they include HUD VASH as well as SSVF.

Senior citizens and the disabled – The most vulnerable, which will be the elderly or anyone with a physical or mental disability, can get additional homeless prevention, grants, and housing services from specialty HUD programs.

 

 

 

Mortgage and foreclosure counseling – HUD agencies in Arkansas as well as the county are available for those.  More on HUD mortgage help in Arkansas.

Non-profits including Our House in Little Rock Arkansas also ensure case management occurs. The process may last up to 12 months, and they ensure everything is addressed so that stability ensures. As homeless prevention is not effective if a future eviction or foreclosure comes up. Various social services, budgeting workshops, employment, and other tools are used. One program run by Our House is known as Central Arkansas Family Stability Institute or CAFSI.

Rapid Rehousing in Little Rock and Pulaski County

The currently homeless can use this assistance programs. It is part of homeless prevention, but it is reactive rather than proactive…like the resources above. There are rehousing programs for veterans in Little Rock Arkansas; teenagers who are runaways; former substance abusers; single moms or dads; victims of domestic violence; and really anyone. Our House is involved in many of them.

Whether the person is homeless due to an eviction or foreclosure, it does not matter. However the applicant will need to commit to becoming self-sufficient as part of the Pulaski County homeless prevention and rapid rehousing program in Pulaski County. This involves everything from employment to budgeting, saving money and much more.

If all criteria have been met, then the Little Rock Arkansas rapid rehousing programs will provide the client with the following. First there will be placement into a shelter or transitional housing. Then case management from Pulaski County's Community Services Department or Our House occurs.

 

 

 

 

Once stabilized, staff help the family find a new place to live. They then may give them financial help, clothing, free furniture, money for a security deposit or rent help too. However the applicant needs to provide they have an income and can sustain future rent payments.
