Lancaster County Nebraska free food banks, soup kitchens and pantries.

Several of the leading food pantries in Lancaster County are listed below. They provide free groceries, meals, and more to the needy and low income in the community. Many of the non-profits also provide other forms of support as well, such as Christmas and Thanksgiving meals and gifts, clothing, and information on government programs such as food stamps.

Most of the centers are open limited hours, rely heavily on donations from the community and also volunteers. It is recommend to call in advance for hours or qualifications that need to be met. The locations will also tend to limit the amount of food or groceries provided. However it can include government commodities, perishable food, and much more. Each center will do its best to meet the needs of the community and they try to not turn anyone away.

In addition to immediate food supplies, a good place to get information on other resources, such as government aid from food stamps or the WIC program for children and newborns.

This non-profit serves the entire county and many surrounding regions as well in Nebraska. Various social services are administered for the poor and low income, all in addition to the food pantry. Other resources can include clothing, emergency financial aid for bills and rent, shelter, and free Christmas assistance. Social workers can also work with qualified clients.

Residents can get food, including frozen boxed or packaged goods, canned items and perishable food such as vegetables, fruits, meat, juice and bakery items. Surplus government commodities may be offered too for those who qualify. Holiday programs are administered. This can include free Thanksgiving meals or a voucher/certificate to shop with. In addition to the food pantry for Lancaster County, a number of other resources are available too. This can include items such as clothing, kitchen items, free diapers, and more. Perishable food like breads and produce are offered to low-income, homeless and refugee families. Other goods include baby food and formula as well as help in filing income taxes.

A food pantry is on site as well as additional family and emergency services. Other resources include holiday gift giving programs, Star Tran monthly passes, rent and utility help. Government commodity food is offered to elderly and pregnant women, or mothers with young children. This is offered to Native Americans in Nebraska and Lancaster County.
