Lake County Illinois Catholic Charities assistance programs.

If you need help in Lake County Illinois, then Catholic Charities is one of the leading organizations to contact. They provide direct emergency assistance, referrals, and partner with non-profits and companies such as North Shore Gas. Social workers from Catholic Charities will advocate on your behalf, provide case management, and offer direct financial assistance if it is available.

Heating bill assistance is offered from the Heartship Program. Catholic Charities may have funds that can help North Shore Gas customers whose heating service has been shut off. Various hardship conditions need to be met, as well as income guidelines are in place. Call the agency at 847-782-4100 in order to apply for Heartship.

Housing and shelter is offered by the Samaritan House. This location caters to homeless women and children in Lake County. So short term housing is offered, as well as support and case management to help people end the cycle of homelessness. Once someone is stable, Catholic Charities will help facilitate longer term housing placement assistance as well as provide skills training. The goal is to also help someone find a job so they can pay the rent on their own in the future.

Some of the case management services provided by Samaritan House include employment and budget counseling, skills education, life skills development, and much more. Rapid Re-housing Program, Housing Counseling and Case Management - This Catholic Charity program helps families locate and secure affordable, safe, and quality housing. Get assistance with developing workable budgets, communicating with prospective landlords, maintaining and paying for the housing, and get information on tenant's and homeowner rights and responsibilities. Foreclosure prevention and counseling may be provided too.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and Catholic Charities work together on the  Housing Advocacy Program (HAP). This is a collaborative project that can help client families that have housing needs that are critical to the preservation of the family. The HAP program will provide services that assist clients in finding and paying for permanent housing and will also help them pay for and meet other basic needs.

 

 

 

The Critical Time Intervention Representative Payee can help disabled and/or chronically homeless people find a home or apartment to live in. Other resources offered are job programs, case management, housing placement assistance, and more.

Lake County residents who currently live in transitional shelter can benefit from the Supportive Housing program. Case management, budgeting and other services are provided to clients from this Catholic Charity program.

Or another resource that can provide help in finding a residence is the Rapid Re-housing Program, as indicated above. People who were recently evicted can receive support to rapidly locate permanent housing in the community. Social workers provide outreach and engagement services, credit repair assistance, housing search and placement assistance. They can also direct renters to emergency financial assistance programs, and representatives also collaborate with community landlords. Phone 847.782.4165.

Lake County Emergency Assistance Program - Resources offered include shelter, heating bill assistance, food, and crisis management. Groceries and food offered will help people meet their short term nutritional needs. Short term housing and shelter services include emergency housing for single parents, homeless women, children and persons with disabilities. Emergency rent and utility assistance may also be coordinated by Catholic Charities. This program can also offer clothing vouchers, pharmaceutical assistance, transportation, bus passes, and more. Social workers also offer case management, counseling and food assistance to HIV/AIDS clients in the county. 847.782.4000

Senior assistance - Includes referral/outreach services, information, financial assistance, homemaker/in-home services, case management, nursing home pre-screening, and senior nutrition programs such as Meals on Wheels and Lake County Illinois senior dining sites.

Catholic Charity Multi-Purpose Senior Centers in Grayslake offer social and educational enrichment programs, hot meals, and workshops for the elderly. The non-profit also operates Senior Citizen Dining Sites. The last meal program for older adults is Meals on Wheels. Volunteers from this Catholic Charity sponsored program will deliver nutritious well-balanced meals to homebound seniors age 60 and above who can’t prepare their own meals or who can’t shop for themselves. Family Self-Sufficiency will help people in Lake County Illinois overcome obstacles from case management and other support. Participants can be anyone, but tend to be single custodial parents. An assessment will occur first. Then work with a specialist in order to address the barriers to improve their quality of life. Services provided throughout the process include supportive counseling, assessment and service planning.

Some of the morel life skills administered are budgeting, education and support services, referrals, limited financial assistance, transportation assistance, job readiness and placement, job coaching/retention services, and monthly educational/support/networking meetings. Immigration Services can coordinate legal assistance to newcomers, Lawful Permanent Residents and US Citizens. Catholic Charities is certified by the US Board of Immigration Appeals. Get advice and assistance in dealing with the extension of visitors' visas, replacement/renewal of residence cards, visas for religious workers, application for work permits, inquiries for status of cases at the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Lake County also helps with free legal assistance related to Violence Against Women Act Self-Petitions, immigrants applying for Temporary Protective Status, as well U visas for other violent crime victims.
