Huntingdon County Pennsylvania St. Vincent de Paul assistance programs.

Limited financial aid, on a case by case basis, may be provided by the Huntingdon County Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The religious organization, which operates in partnership with churches, does not have solid income guidelines to use for applicants, but their resources are limited. Any financial assistance for housing, heating bills, food, or other needs is very restricted.

One differentiator of this church is the fact they may offer some transportation programs. This will be in the form of loans to either fix a car, or maybe help pay for an affordable one provided it is used for work reasons. However, as with any form of support, the loan programs from Huntingdon County Pennsylvania St. Vincent de Paul are even more rare.

Basic needs, including food or clothes

Constantly increasing costs of groceries, milk, meats, and more are causing families to fall behind. People across the region contact churches, including Saint Vincent de Paul, and say they are struggling to keep up with everything from food to medications and housing. This is when the free food bank may be handy. There are also clothing and household items that may be given out.

It is an emergency service, but is combined with case management. So while the pantry may meet an immediate need, it is not sustainable over the long term. So the family will be referred to SNAP food stamps and other aid in Pennsylvania.

For the short term though, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will pass out free bags of groceries with soup, peanut butter, bread, and more. Or there can be some clothing items, including used or new winter jackets for kids. They support senior citizens, children, single moms, and struggling families. The program is the result of donations from local churches and restaurants, such as Cracker Barrel. Use of the pantry can help a low income family make ends meet and save some money in their monthly budget.

Financial support from St. Vincent in Huntingdon County

In some cases, either a volunteer mechanic or small dollar amounts of financial aid may help with critical car repairs. If and when provided, it will only be for lower income working parents, including single moms or dads. The support, which is often a loan, can help with the cost of very minor vehicle repairs in order to overcome transportation barriers towards employment.

The applicant must be over the age of 18, have a child, live in Huntingdon County, and be working more than 20 hours a week. They also need to have a total household income not exceeding 200% of Federal Government Poverty Guidelines. There are even referrals to free charitable car programs.

The St. Vincent de Paul Emergency Services program help individuals in a crisis situation. Case managers will help the family obtain the resources they need for the immediate and long term. There may be the following available, based on funding levels and other factors.

  • -Information on Lifeline or link-up telephone assistance programs.
  • -Bus tokens for local travel in Huntingdon County. This is for individuals who come to the offices for employment or training services.
  • -Utility, heating, as well as water bill payment assistance.
  • -Grants to pay for heating oil, fuel, or gas bills.
  • -Case management.
  • -Food vouchers or lists of local pantries.
  • -Small dollar amounts of rental and/or mortgage payment assistance.
  • -Some loan programs for new cars and other transportation costs.

As a form of self-sufficiency, the team at Society of Saint Vincent de Paul will provide guidance to clients for obtaining the following. This is also part of their emergency services. Clients, including immigrants, the unemployed, and families living in poverty, can get help obtaining Birth certificates; Prescribed medications; State of ID Identification cards; Prescription eye glasses and more. Staff also gladly give referrals for other social services and benefits in the Huntingdon County Pennsylvania community.
