Kindergarten to high school aged students in Hartford County Connecticut can get free back to school supplies, uniforms, books, and educational material. There are a number of charities that provide items to low to moderate income households as well as anyone in a financial crisis. Based on donations, there may be clothes, uniforms, backpacks, notebooks, gift cards, and many other free school supplies for qualified residents. The agencies, including Catholic Charity churches and the Salvation Army in Hartford, giveaway supplies during the summer or fall. Not only may back to school supplies be provided to needy students, but the entire family may also apply for other support, such as food or financial aid. The aim of the charities is not only to help students during the school year. Find everything from backpacks to gift certificates (to Wal-Mart or Target), notebooks, laptops, pens, pencils, shoes, or sneakers and more. Catholic Charities and the Archdiocese of Hartford has a few churches in the region that offer assistance. There are many programs, ranging from free back to school supply giveaways to food, financial aid, shelter, and more. My Sister Place offers a number of free or low cost basic needs. There are personal hygiene or free toiletries, clothes, school supplies, baby items, and more. Low income families or single moms can get books, uniforms, sneakers, school items (such as calculators, notebooks, pens, pencils, paper, etc.) and much more. Everything is based on donations. House of Bread accepts donations of many items, including school supplies or household goods. The charity provides them to people in their own programs. There is also a thrift store to buy low cost books, backpacks, computers, and more. Students and their parents can shop there as well, and the address is  1453 Main Street, Hartford, CT. Salvation Army Family Services Hartford County administers many assistance programs. During the summer and fall, there are free school supplies passed out. Saint Ann’s Immaculate Conception Church has a food pantry and clothing closet. There may be free school supplies for residents that use the pantry. This may be pens, pencils, notebooks, backpacks, paper, highlighters, calculators and more. The Back to School Supply giveaways are arranged by the United Way of Central or Northeastern Connecticut too. Worldwide Lighthouse Missions is at 723 Main Street, Manchester, Connecticut. Volunteers accept paper products, household goods, school supplies, footwear, winter jackets and more.
