How to Save Money

Salvation Army assistance programs Goldsboro and Wayne County.

The Goldsboro Salvation Army center and Family Store serves all of Wayne County North Carolina. The charity may offer everything from financial help for rent to free food or school supplies, Christmas toys from Adopt a Family or utility bill help (among other resources). Other vouchers such as for gasoline, transitional housing, and other programs may be offered by the Salvation Army as well.

The discounted thrift store is open for shoppers to buy items they need (at an affordable price), and there is also the possibility of emergency financial aid. No matter the need, the church based charity helps the less fortunate, poor, and even potential volunteers in some capacity.

The place that drives what the Salvation Army is able to offer is their Family Store. This is the case as it raises money for their operations. So the sale of items at the store leads to the charity being able to provide financial help for paying bills or rent, medications, allows them to operate the free food pantry, and more. But the thrift store also raises money for the Goldsboro Salvation Army. So it allows them to keep up with their own overhead.

The location of the store is at 2805 Royall Avenue. It sells a wide variety of items. But of course the inventory depends on donations. But some examples of what shoppers may find include the following. Locate everything from furniture, beds, dressers and mattresses to kitchen items. In those cases there may be pots or pans, utensils, dishes, and kitchen appliances. There are also clothing type supplies, books, vintage attire, and much more.

Not only can Wayne County residents shop at the Salvation Army store, but they can volunteer to work there. It can give people some critical work type experience. The hours are Monday to Saturday until 7pm, but those can change.

Additional Salvation Army Wayne County programs

One of them is more financial in nature. From time to time, low to moderate income Wayne County households can get a few dollars for paying some critical bills. A focus happens to be on housing needs, which can include security deposits, rent, water, or energy bills. As without any of these the client may not be able to keep a roof over their heads.

Veterans and families of military members can get help. So can those with a very short term, time defined hardship such as illness or short term reduction in hours. But the money for paying bills comes and goes. Even when no housing assistance or prescription vouchers are on site, the Salvation Army may still give referrals.

Child and Adult development, even including employment, is another focus. The Goldsboro Salvation Army wants to put clients on the path to financial as well as personal stability. So staff meet with clients. They help them address everything from employment to career counseling budgeting needs. The character building programs are effective at addressing the root cause of poverty. They also offer information on North Carolina job placement services.

Free supplies are also given. Some are available year round (food from the pantry, etc), others are seasonal in nature (Christmas gifts, Thanksgiving turkeys, etc.). More than any other service, this often depends on donations from the community. Those donation programs go by many names, including Angel Tree, back to school supplies, Red Kettle bell ringers, and much more.

Substance Abuse assistance is from Salvation Army services such as Harbor Light. Whether it is a drug or alcohol issue, the Salvation Army will find a program that may fit their needs in North Carolina. Note many have a fee associated with them.
