Fort Bend and Galveston Catholic Charities assistance programs.

An extensive number of programs are available from Catholic Charities in Texas. Thousands of low income families in Fort Bend, Montgomery, and Galveston County receive help, advice, and support every year.

Meeting basic needs are a priority. The charity will do what it can to provide rental assistance, food, utilities, medication and other forms of emergency financial aid. At the same time this is offered Catholic Charities will try to provide more general support services targeted at returning families and individuals to mid to long term self-sufficiency. The objective is to provide short term relief to someone facing a hardship and also allow individuals to gain long term stability. Examples of services offered include:

  • Food pantry and meal assistance in offered to families. Qualified clients can only use this at most once every thirty (30) days. One bag of food is provided to families with five or less members in their household. Families with more than five in the household will receive two bags at most once per month.
  • Financial assistance for rent and utilities is always in high demand in Texas, including Fort Bend County. Catholic Charities does its best to meet the need. Shelter is administered too.
  • Referrals and information is provided to other appropriate community resources in Texas or at the federal level.
  • Employment assistance, career counseling, and more is provided for self-sufficiency.
  • Intensive case management is offered from social workers.
  • Transportation assistance including gasoline vouchers and rides for seniors.
  • Catholic Charities works with other agencies, such as the Salvation Army, on Disaster Recovery.

Pregnancy services may be offered for women, teenagers, and their families. A focus is always on helping provide the best care possible for babies & their families. The agency will assist young mothers, their families and fathers during pregnancy through the baby’s first year of life. Support provided includes medical referrals, counseling services, and education. Catholic Charities will support parents in Galveston Texas and nearby areas by teaching parenting and life skills, securing resources, offering referrals for medical care and can even help with infant adoptions.

Prenatal and postpartum medical care is offered through collaboration with Doctor’s Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, and also Women and Children’s Clinic. Services and programs administered include vocation/educational, medical, nutritional, emotional, parental knowledge and skills, psychological, legal and financial; on-going family, group, and individual counseling regarding the pregnancy. Some basic needs like diapers or formula may be available.

 

 

 

Catholic Charities can help immigrants and refugees in Texas. The agency can assist newcomers, including government-approved refugees and immigrants, in becoming self-sufficient. Programs assist with job development, cultural orientation, family reunification and resettlement. Work with a Catholic Charities case worker in securing housing in Galveston and Fort Bend County. Or access food, clothing and other necessities. Other services can help people with gaining and improving life and language skills, including ESL classes. Other immigrant resources include general Case Management, Financial Assistance, and Career Counseling.

Help for senior citizens is offered. Catholic Charities supports seniors and the elderly in their efforts to stay active and healthy and to live independently for as long as possible. Staff and volunteers provide services including companionship and transportation to grocery shopping, doctor’s appointments and other vital trips. Or sign up for health and welfare monitoring, referrals for mental health, emergency financial assistance, education workshops, and activities for social and spiritual needs. Other resources include comprehensive in-home assessment and mental health needs assessment, education and supportive counseling.

The St. Frances Cabrini Center for Immigration Legal Assistance can offer newcomers to Fort Bend and Montgomery Texas with affordable high-quality services. It is offered to individuals otherwise unable to pay for legal representation on their own. Resources available include legal assessment, outreach and counseling, representation, advocacy, and citizenship application assistance. Catholic Charities is also accredited by the federal government and the Board of Immigration Appeals.

Clients can also learn about federal and state immigration laws, and afterward have the opportunity for a free consultation with an Accredited Representative or attorney. Free Citizenship Workshops are also offered each month to immigrants and refugees. All Catholic Charity services of the Cabrini Center are provided without regard to the clients race, religion or socioeconomic status.

Housing assistance is offered as part of Catholic Charities Community Development Corporation (CDC). Programs and credit counselors want to create home ownership opportunities for low to moderate-income families in the region.

 

 

 

 

Housing Counseling and Education can assist with the need for education and counseling for individuals and families in Texas who are in the low-moderate income range seeking to learn more about the home ownership process in Fort Bend, Montgomery, and Galveston County. Clients can learn about first time home buyer loans, down payment programs, and even access free foreclosure counseling.

Catholic Charities Veterans Assistance Program is also eagerly offered by churches and the charity organization. It is available for men and women who have served this country. Texas has many veterans, and those in a crisis can be helped with financial assistance for rent, mortgage payments, food, employment and education guidance, medical bills and other needs. Referrals are also provided to appropriate community and federal government resources.
