For example, if you are faced with imminent disconnection, a medical emergency, or some other type of financial crisis, a local agency can provide immediate relief. There are applications to local and national benefits

  • The types of programs available from a community action agency in Florida, or anywhere, vary widely. Some offer their own money that is raised by fund raisers and other community action agencies part with the United Way or other non-profits to help qualified low-income families. There is also money from the federal funded Community Services Block Grant (CSBG), which a FL community action can use to help pay electric bills for qualified residents.

Government financial assistance from community action is offered from the LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program). The utility bill assistance program is administered at the local county and town level across the state. Local community action agencies accept applications to LIHEAP and can help walk qualified individuals through the application process. The money provided from the Florida LIHEAP program can help pay cooling and even heating bills and there is also the LIHEAP crisis program.
