Get help from Lilly Cares patient assistance program.

The Lilly Cares Foundation Patient Assistance Program, operated by Eli Lilly and Company, has helped millions of low-income and/or uninsured patients receive needed medications. The program provides dozens of drugs to enrolled patients. These include Cialis, Cymbalta, Glucagon, Humalog, Prozac and Trulicity.

Too many  people either have limited or no longer have prescription drug health coverage, or they struggle to pay for the medications they need for their condition. The Lilly Cares patient assistance program, or PAP, can help patients of all income levels get the prescription drugs they need.

Income and criteria for Lilly Cares

The Lilly Cares patient assistance program, see how to apply below, will accept people who have a household income that is less than 500 percent of the poverty level. In certain cases they may also accept people whose income is even greater than that. This is an increase from some of the other options which are out there, which may set a threshold of around 200 percent level.

While the cut-off amounts change yearly, this now means that the yearly eligible income limit for a family of two is about $55,000 per year. This threshold will also be adjusted yearly. This program should be able to provide millions of more Americans with free medications.

Residency and income requirements are similar to other programs. Applicants may have Medicare Part D coverage. Household income limits depend on the medication required. Lilly groups medications into three categories. For Group 1 drugs, household income cannot exceed 300% of federal poverty guidelines. Group 2 income limits are bumped to 400% and Group 3 allows up to 500% of federal guidelines. Group 3 drugs are primarily for oncology patients.

As with other programs, enrollment is for 12 months, or until the end of the calendar year for Medicare patients. Applications to continue benefits can be submitted up to 60 days before the current enrollment period ends.

Medications from Eli Lilly are shipped directly to the patient or a healthcare provider, whether it is a doctor, hospital, or even a free clinic. They are not shipped to pharmacies. Patients can receive text message notifications advising when medications are shipped. Persons enrolled in the program do not pay any shipping charges.

Patients can choose to enroll in an auto-refill program for most medications. Auto-refills continue until the end of the enrollment period. Persons not choosing the auto-refill option must request a refill by contacting a Lilly Cares pharmacy.

How to be eligible for the Eli Lilly Cares Program

In addition to the income, some other criteria include the following. Many of these will need to be met by applicants, but exceptions can be made on occasion.

  • The applicant can have no other prescription drug coverage. For example, no federal or state government Medicaid, private heath insurance, VA, or Medicare Part D coverage.
  • The program is also not open ended. Enrollment in the Lilly Cares assistance program is for a 12 month period. If someone still needs help after that timeframe, patients must reapply for additional assistance, and apply for annual enrollment.

The program was created and is managed by Lilly Cares Foundation, Inc. It is a patient assistance program that provides free medications and access to almost all Eli Lilly products for U.S. residents who meet the criteria. The terms are flexible as indicated above. Through their hospitals, physicians, and medical providers patients who would otherwise be unable to obtain Lilly medications or pay their medical bills may be able to qualify for these free prescription medicines.
