Economic Opportunity Foundation assistance programs in Kansas City.

Economic Opportunity Foundation provides emergency assistance to struggling families in the greater Kansas City area. A housing services division can help meet basic needs around food, utilities, and referrals to rental assistance. Another key part of EOFKCK is on their job training and employment services, and this can help qualified people across Wyandotte County obtain self-sufficiency and a life sustaining income.

The Housing Services Program is part of their Social Services. It is based from an office at 1542 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas 66102. There is also a Community Action Center located in the Quindaro Neighborhood. Some of what may be available from this site and Economic Opportunity Foundation is as follows. However, like any assistance program, resources are limited and each serve will come with a formal application process.

Housing services may be information on homeless prevention assistance, which may be rental help. The currently homeless can receive referrals to transitional housing or resources that can help pay a security deposit in Kansas City. Some clients may also be directed to other options, such as short term loan offering just to make it through the crisis. The community action agency works to both prevent homelessness and rehouse those that need it.

Case managers from the group will also work with the jobless or low-income residents who are struggling with their rent payments or that are now homeless. The non-profit will try to provide mortgage or rent payment assistance. Or maybe learn about legal support or landlord/tenant mediation that may address a housing situation.

Emergency financial assistance or basic needs can include LIHEAP grants to pay heating bills, SNAP food stamps, and more. The goal is to help with the short term crisis and get the client on a path to self-sufficiency. Clients can get help in achieving needed supports such as utility bill and rent assistance, and mortgage default counseling, to address crisis situations.

A food pantry is available for free groceries, meals and snacks for students, and similar goods, including government commodities. Seniors, children, and people just facing a short term hardship are some of the clients.

The Senior Commodity Distribution department is involved in providing free or low cost food assistance to low-income elderly and disabled individuals.

Affordable, low income housing is also for disabled individuals to help them remain living in their own homes.

A number of social services agencies, charities, organizations, government entities, and churches work with the EOFKCK Housing Services Program. They do this in an effort to maximize and coordinate assistance programs for the low income in the Wyandotte County Kansas area. They also work closely with the United Way and the Duchesne Clinic, in an effort to bring support and assistance to the greater Wyandotte County.

Any aid is always short term. So the Employment Services Program can help get the individual or family back on track to self-sufficiency. They work with Employment Services businesses in Kansas City, light -industrial, health care, business office, and other companies in order to have the most effective program possible.

There are also federal government one stop job centers and resources from the WIA - Workforce Investment Act. These are all part of resources for the under or unemployed in the region. The goal of this, and really all, Community Action Agencies is to help people to help themselves in achieving self-sufficiency. (913) 371-7800
