Delaware uninsured health care programs.

Patients that are uninsured and that meet low income levels in Delaware may be able to receive medical assistance from government programs and other resources. A wide range of health care services are provided to those who qualify, and it can include medications, screenings, medical tests, and more. Many patients may be able to enroll into government sponsored health insurance plans.

Depending on a number of factors that will vary by program, some individuals will need to pay some money towards their costs while others will receive all their health care for free. The state of Delaware offers some of the services themselves, and others are administered in partnership with non-profit organizations and local clinics. The leading resources are below. If you do not qualify for assistance then referrals may be provided for other potential options.

CARE Delaware is for families with a disabled member and the program will coordinate and pay for respite care for them. It offers financial assistance, cash grants, and temporary relief for people who are taking care of their disabled family members. 800-223-9074.

CRDP - Chronic Renal Disease Program may be able to help residents in Delaware with End Stage Renal Disease. Call 800-372-2022 for information. Some of the conditions include your assets need to be below certain thresholds and income also needs to be under 300% of the Federal Government Poverty Level. Some of what can be provided includes nutritional supplements, over-the-counter and/or prescription medications, transportation to the hospital or doctor appointments and much more.

The Delaware Health Coverage Tax Credit Bridge Program will pay a portion of your premiums while someone is in the process of enrolling into the federal government Health Coverage Tax Credit. It can pay for up to 3 months of premiums and is known as a bridge gap program. 877-668-0166.

Uninsured children may receive medical bill assistance from the Delaware Healthy Children Program (DHCP). The types of bills that can be paid for include prescriptions, doctor visits, dental care, immunizations, inpatient and outpatient hospital services, mental health care, lab/x-ray, vision and hearing services. Families of the children should call 800-996-9969.

Prescription medications can be paid for by the DPAP program. Uninsured disabled individuals and senior citizens can enroll into this program if they meet conditions. There is a maximum amount that will be paid out and patients will still need to make a co-payment. As funding allows beneficiaries can get up to $3000 per year. 800-996-9969.

Elderinfo, which can be reached at 800-336-9500, will answer questions on government care such as Medigap, Medicare, Medicaid, and also long-term care insurance. Volunteers work for this non-profit organization. This is an option for individuals that are both uninsured or even people who have health care coverage.

Medicaid for Workers with Disabilities (MWD) (phone number 800-372-2022) will offer health insurance coverage for people with disabilities whose income is too high for Medicaid. A monthly premium needs to be paid.

Medicaid Waiver for Elderly and Disabled offers homemaker service, case management, personal care, adult day health, respite care, home delivered meals, and more to the elderly and disabled so that they can continue to live at home. 800-223-9074.

Delaware PCIP / Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan is for uninsured residents who have been denied health insurance in the past. Maybe they were denied due to a serious medical or pre-existing condition.
