When facing a crisis, Daystar Life Center may be able to help. The charity may be able to assist with the basic needs of families from the Saint Petersburg area that are facing a hardship, and services range from financial aid to free food or clothing.

Programs are funded by money raised from the community and volunteers, so please give back to this Pinellas County agency if possible. Hundreds of struggling residents get help from the charity each year, with a focus on those in poverty and that have no other options available.

Food and shelter are essential for meeting the basic needs of life. The Daystar Life Center, in collaboration with local food pantries and churches, is on a mission to ensure no one goes hungry in this day and age. In Pinellas County, several non-profit organizations, churches and charities help eliminate hunger by providing free meals and groceries year round for anyone struggling with or at risk for hunger.

There are also regional food pantries that offer people enough groceries or canned goods to people so they can make it through an entire week while local senior citizens or homebound individuals may be eligible for home food and grocery delivery.

Anyone at risk for hunger or that is currently living without certainty as to where their next meal will come from should seek help. If a family needs assistance, they should contact Daystar Life Center for information and support. There are a wealth of resources including information on food pantries, soup kitchens and other sites that will combat hunger.

The Family Services division typically offers most of the limited amounts of financial and emergency assistance. This will generally be for at-risk, financially struggling individuals and families in Saint Petersburg.

This service is offered to residents who are living in a short term crisis situation. Some of the emergency needs met include providing money for paying rent, Christmas assistance, food, utilities, clothing and funding for other needs based on individual circumstances. Each year, a number of local emergency needs are met by the charity organization.

 

 

 

Providing safe and secure shelters well as housing support for individuals and families with children is an essential goal of the Daystar Life Center and its partners. Typically, once a person seeks shelter, they have depleted every other source of support from friends and family.

Limited assistance with paying cooling and energy bills is crucial for at-risk, low-income families and individuals. The hot summer months in Florida can result in very high utility costs and with available funding, Daystar may be able to assist eligible applicants who are facing an emergency.

Social services plays an important role in helping to transform the lives of the working poor, including single parents or the unemployed. Some of the resources and facilities available in St. Petersburg include emergency shelter, medical and counseling therapy, access to affordable housing in Pinellas County to meet their specific needs. Throughout the county, daycare centers also provide exceptional service to individuals of all ages including infants, children and teenagers, and referrals can be made to them.

Counseling in basic life skills and are offered for those individuals in need of these types of services. Once an individual makes a sufficient income, they will need to make a payment towards rent, utilities and various housing costs to lead them back on the path of independent living. In turn, Daystar Center will provide them support during this time. That can include shelter, employment referrals, bag lunches, transportation, referrals for affordable housing, bus passes, meals and case management as applicable.

Struggling, low income families already living within the confines of a tight budget have access in the county to the Clothing and Family Thrift Stores. Daystar Life Center sells new and gently used clothing and household items at a considerably lower cost to the general public. Though limited in number, there are vouchers available buying these goods, so some low income families will not be charged.
