Dakota County free clothing closets, furniture banks and school supplies

Most of the basic needs in Dakota County are provided by thrift stores, but there are also some free clothing closets as well as furniture banks. Depending on factors such as the applicant's income as well as what has been donated to an agency, the family may be provided free items or they will be able to buy clothes or school supplies at a reduced rate or using vouchers. Or some low income families in the county as well as Hastings area can get free furniture, bedding, and household goods.

The main goal is to ensure that children have winter coats or school backpacks or supplies, and that job seekers have clothing for work or an interview. Or a low income family or single mom moving into a home or apartment can turn to a free furniture bank for help. So this means the focus is on provided residents with what is needed for long term stability. The clothing closets are not places to turn to for everyday shopping.

If a Dakota County resident does not qualify for free items, then they can turn to a thrift store for discounts. Those locations are open to anyone, and there are no income or other qualifications.
