Crossroads Rhode Island assistance programs

A leading non-profit organization is Crossroads. They are a community action agency that is run privately and covers the region of Kent, Bristol, Newport, Providence, and Washington Rhode Island. The organization relies on funds from the government as well as other donors.

A focus is on addressing the need for safe and low income housing in the region. Eviction prevention, shelter, transitional housing, and emergency rent assistance may all be available, as funding allows. Using the assistance and relying on contributions and government grants, Crossroads is maybe the biggest homeless service organization that operates anywhere in Kent or Providence County, or rely anywhere in Rhode Island.

The resources and programs that the community action agency offers help in finding solutions to both short and long term needs of the poor and homeless. Services will also allow individual persons and families to gain independence, employment and in general take control of their lives.

Emergency assistance from Crossroads is available as well. It can address the basic needs of people such as those of meals, water, food, shower, and clothing. Thousands of individuals and families are coming to Crossroads in Rhode Island when they are faced with a crisis. Their primary services can be categorized into the following.

Case Management from social workers and advocates at Crossroads. The non-profit offers social services and information on government benefits (both federal and state). This is available to every individual or a family that comes to them for help and shelter. The Case Advocates work with the guest to help build up plans so that they do not feel left out or go homeless.

Outreach services from Crossroads is for all homeless people who are more than likely not ready and equipped to take part in the continuum of care. The Crossroads van and its staff will even seek out all the homeless people in the Providence area and nearby towns who are living on the streets. They will help them check into the shelter facility, provide them hot meals, and more.

A place for people to go is the Crossroads Community Room. It is available around the clock. The locations operate as a safe haven that offers respite for individuals who are otherwise forced to spend time on the streets. It is available in addition to any local overnight emergency shelters.

 

 

 

This Community Room provides a place where they can keep their personal belongings safe, get protection from the harsh elements of winter, and offers a free laundry facilities and showers. In addition, there are some other informational as well as educational sessions that are offered at the room by the Community Volunteers. Some people can even stay there until they find a local shelter.

Crossroads Homeless Family Services is an option for all the homeless families and recently evicted in the State of Rhode Island and Washington County. When a family becomes homeless due to job loss or a financial hardship, it is often Crossroads that they are referred to. They can get information on security deposit assistance and low income, public housing.

Long term, Permanent Supportive Housing facilities of Crossroads in Rhode Island include the following units of Harold Lewis House, Kingstown Crossings, Kingstown Crossings II, and Travelers Aid Housing.

For people use the housing units, on-site services provided by Crossroad are Free Day Care, Case Management. Job Training, Placement Assistance, Budgeting Workshops, After-School Tutoring, Emergency Transportation, Opportunities for Development of Skills in Parenting, Nutrition, and Financial Management.

Transitional apartments in Providence County provide housing for over ten families and these units are situated throughout the region and city. Families can stay in these short term, low income apartments for a period stretching to two years or until they are able to become independent again through the social services of Crossroads.

Another option is Supportive Housing. The Family Center of Crossroads includes several different supportive housing units for low income and working poor families. This is for those who are able to move out of their emergency shelter arrangements and the transitional housing facilities.

 

 

 

 

The Women’s Shelter Facilities offers clients the support of case management and extended stay for a large number of homeless women and their children. Other social services and emergency assistance that is offered to women by Crossroads are job training sessions and weekly meetings with their vocational services team. Also learn about rent help from the Rapid Re-housing Program.

Operation First Step is for the recently evicted and people that are new to homelessness. The community action agency will offer them temporary shelter and support services. Sadly some people are homeless due to catastrophic illness, bankruptcy, home foreclosures, domestic violence or a sudden job loss. The agency will provide these individuals with intensive case management and help them move out of homelessness for good.

The Learning and Job Training Center at Crossroads provides some or all of the following. The Centre also helps people in setting personal goals that may include stress management, budgeting and financial empowerment, networking, composing cover letters and negotiating with supervisors and co-workers.

A Pre-Employment Program will help people find a job somewhere in Rhode Island. It offers clients job readiness assessments, stress management, and budgeting and financial empowerment. Get help from a counselor with improving interviewing skills, budgeting and financial empowerment, and advice on conducting a job search and online profiles.

Another job training resource is Get Hired!, which is the non-profit community action agencies Intensive Pre-employment Program. It offers adult education services and vocational job training.

 

 

 

The Dental and Health care center at Crossroads offers medical and dental treatment to those uninsured and homeless people. Clients can get check ups, cleanings, free dental care, low cost prescription medications, OB/GYN and even mental health counsel.
