There are a few places that struggling and/or low income families in Clark County IN can go to for financial assistance. Grant money and support services from community action

The Community Action of Southern Indiana offers local residents several programs that can help them make it through a difficult period. Some of the services they offer includes home repair assistance, weatherization programs that can lower a homeowners heating and utility bills or free government grants, There is also emergency rent assistance, home repair loans, and grants to pay both heating and energy bills.

  • Energy Bill Assistance Program: Low and moderate income families may be able to receive aid from this program. It helps people with their everyday energy bills, as well as those facing an emergency, such as a loss of their service. They have a winter crisis plan, summer cooling services, outreach, and offer referrals to other government programs.
  • Home Owner Occupied Rehabilitation Program: This serves low and moderate income families. Its goal is to ensure people have safe, decent, and affordable housing. It offers general home repairs, health and safety repairs, and more.
  • Weatherization program: The goal here is to help people reduce their heating and utility bills by installing free energy saving upgrades to homes and apartments. Families can save hundreds of dollars per year on their energy bills. This can be done by adding insulation to walls and attics, tuning and replacing furnaces and hot water heaters, replacing window panes, caulking, and other energy saving upgrades.
  • Rent assistance programs: They offer Indiana’s housing choice voucher program, and also provide  access to other short term funds that people can use to pay their monthly rent. Some tenants may be provided a government grant for their housing needs, while other families are issued a loan that needs to be repaid.
  • Free food is also provided by CASI. This can include home delivered meals for seniors or referrals to pantries in Clark County.

Two additional non-profit charity type organizations to call for help in the greater Jeffersonville area include these. Both may offer one or more of the following. Some cash assistance for rent, utilities, and medications. They can also distribute non-monetary support, such as free food, Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, and clothing.
