Chatham and Glynn County area free holiday and Christmas assistance.

During the holiday period, non-profits and charities step up to provide free Christmas as well as Thanksgiving assistance to less fortunate households. There may be food baskets, free Christmas presents for families, and programs such as Toys for Tots or Angel Tree. There are organizations that operate in several counties, including Chatham, Camden, Glynn, and Liberty. While many of the gift and meal programs at available the holidays are focused around the city of Savannah, there are also other programs in the area too.

The number of families seeking help this time of year is always very high. Parents want their child to have some type of gift to open Christmas morning, and these charities do their best to meet that need. They may hold toy give away sessions, operate Adopt a Family programs, and offer free Christmas holiday food baskets or Thanksgiving turkey dinners. Or there are gift cards, clothes, and many other Christmas gifts. Much of this is done at no cost to income qualified families.

When applying for help, applicants should come with supporting documentation to an agency in Chatham or another county. Christmas help is normally available in the region on a first come and served basis, so be prepared with a Photo ID, proof of income, expenses, and residency.
