Free holiday and Christmas assistance Chatham and Glynn County area.

During the holiday period, churches and charities provide free Christmas as well as Thanksgiving assistance to less fortunate households. There may be food baskets, free Christmas presents for families, toys for kids and food baskets. Find programs such as Toys for Tot, Adopt a Family or Angel Tree in Savannah GA as well as nearby counties.

There are organizations that provide free holiday help operate in several counties, including Chatham, Camden, Glynn, and Liberty. While many of the Christmas gift and meal programs at available the holidays are focused around the city of Savannah, there are also other programs in the area too.

The number of families seeking help this time of year is always very high. Parents want their child to have some type of gift to open Christmas morning, and these charities do their best to meet that need. They may hold toy give away sessions, operate Adopt a Family programs, and offer free Christmas holiday food baskets or Thanksgiving turkey dinners. Or there are gift cards, clothes, and many other Christmas gifts, including for single mothers and the elderly. Much of this is done at no cost to income qualified families.

When applying for help, applicants should come with supporting documentation to an agency in Chatham or another county. Christmas help is normally available in the region on a first come and served basis, so be prepared with a Photo ID, proof of income, expenses, and residency.

United Way of the Coastal Empire

They focus on Liberty County families. There is a Christmas toy and meal donation program for children from working poor and low income households.

Lutheran Services of Georgia

This Chatham County based office is involved in a number of social services fore the needy, and one is a holiday program. Everything from games to clothing, gifts, and stockings may be passed out.

 

 

 

Savannah Feed The Hungry

The working poor and homeless can seek help from the charity. Clothing, holiday meals, and more is offered year round and at Christmas.

Toys for Tots of Coastal Georgia
Toy and gift donations from the community keep this program running during Christmastime. It is run in partnership with the Marine Corps, and applications are accepted online. Free toys are given to registered children and teens under the age of 17. There may be stuffed animals, clothes, sneakers, Legos, video games or bicycles, dolls and more.

The Salvation Army Holiday Programs
The main programs include Angel Tree (for children) as well as Adopt a Family, for the entire household. Based on donations, there may be games, books, tablets, electronics, meal baskets and other holiday help. Applications are accepted for Thanksgiving meals and Christmas programs, such as Adopt a Family in Savannah GA. Everything from financial aid to gift cards, clothing, and toys may be offered.

There is a free Christmas gift program known as Holiday Hope. The homeless (and their kids) and others in poverty can get free gifts, underwear, hygiene supplies, books and other presents. Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas meals or food may be offered too.

Union Mission

Help at Christmas is for the disabled and families in poverty. There are gift programs, social services, and other support.

Regional Society of Saint Vincent - SVDP
The charity helps the poor, low income, elderly, and others. Whether free hot holiday meals for the homeless, or baskets full of free groceries or Christmas stocking stuffers for kids, help is offered. There is also financial aid, regional toy drives, a thrift store and more. Continue with SVDP Chatham County assistance programs.

Old Savannah City Mission

The charity runs a faith based rescue mission. As part of this, there may be help at the holiday. Resources can range from gift cards to furniture, household goods, food baskets, toys, and even gently used furniture for an entire family.
