Central Georgia free clothing closets, furniture and school supplies.

There are several different charities and churches in Central Georgia that help low income families meet their basic needs. The clothing closets may have free items for school supplies, professional attire for work, or, in some cases, free Christmas clothes or toys for children as well. There are also free furniture banks in Central Georgia that provide household goods, beds, couches, and so much more. The items passed out are intended to help individuals become more self-sufficient, thus the focus on school supplies and work items.

The counties supported are located across a wide area in the region. They include Baldwin, Putnam, Bibb, Crawford, Hancock, Houston, Jones, Macon, Monroe, Jasper, Peach, Pulaski, Twiggs, Wilkinson, and Washington. While the exact resources and goods offered at each clothing bank will vary widely (as they mostly depend on donations) the bottom line is that many will have some type of assistance available. Some examples may be the following.

  • Locations may have free school uniforms, supplies or shoes for students.
  • Christmas assistance is widely available, often in partnership with regional charities in Central Georgia such as the Salvation Army.
  • Free furniture banks are also located in many counties, including Bibb, Macon, and others.
  • Some baby supplies may be sold at thrift stores, such as a crib or a clothing closet may pass out diapers.
  • Some centers in the region, such as counties of Bibb, Macon, or Houston, may even have on site food pantries too.
  • Thrift store are available. While they generally sell items, some may have vouchers for free goods.
