Carter and Garvin County food pantries.

Whether it is a free box of groceries, Meals on Wheels, or applications to SNAP food stamps, the charities in Carter and Garvin County that operate food pantries may be able to help. Some offer their own direct assistance, such as groceries. Others will refer the applicant to another nearby resources that can provide help with any food that may be needed.

The non-profits combine the resources available at their pantry with government benefits, such as applications to Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) as well as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Or referrals are given to other social services in the area, especially for basic needs. As the food banks are a source of information on clothing, diapers, and even emergency financial aid using cash assistance programs.

The bottom line is that many different assistance programs are available in the region of Carter County as well as Garvin for helping with nutritional needs. If a meal or box of groceries is needed, the food pantries and soup kitchens below can assist.

The non-profit helps seniors, the elderly, and disabled in Garvin County. They are part of the Agency on Aging. Programs range from non-perishable food packets as well as Meals on Wheels, and these can supplement the diets of older adults. The goal is to improve overall nutrition of the individual.

An emergency food pantry is open. There may also be meals for the homeless, Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday food, and even baby formula for working poor parents.

People over 65 can get assistance. Whether it is food such as Ensure for seniors or information on Medical Care for seniors, support is available. There are two other locations as well.

Food and meals are for senior citizens that meet low income requirements. There may also be help for people on SSI disability or a fixed income. The Wilson site in Carter County is based at 1165 7th St., Wilson, OK 73463. This office can be reached at (580) 668-3128 for intake.

The charity provides, among other things, a free box of canned goods, hot meals and dry foods. There are also Christmas toys and meals from Adopt a Family, items at a thrift store such as furniture or diapers for sale, and more.
