The assistance programs arranged by SVDP Society in Concord region and the county are only for residents of a limited area and they are part of the Catholic Church. In addition, all resources from the parishes are very limited. While the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul agency will try to help when possible, unfortunately many applicants will need to be referred to other resources. Financial assistance may be available from SVDP parishes based on funding. This is a program that is limited in scope and has a strict application process. There is also a pledge that will be required.
It will tend to be for a client that has a situational crisis such as an illness, divorce, loss of employment, or any type of financial emergency. This assistance may be to pay portions of rent, mortgage, and transportation to a job or utilities. The goal is to prevent homelessness or prevent an interruption in services of their electricity.
In addition, those qualified may receive assistance for other needs on a one-off basis. This can include paying for prescription medication or glasses on an emergency basis only.
Any grant issued by SVDP parishes is based on individual client circumstances and is offered approximately once per year at most. In many cases, additional resources for funding may be needed by the applicant, as the church will only help with a portion of an outstanding bill.
Once all the necessary funding has been secured by the applicant, whether it is a loan or some other source, the client will then need to bring documentation as proof of this secured funding. The last step is the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul staff directly making payment by check to the appropriate entity, such as a landlord or utility company.
The Saint Vincent de Paul Society food program is for in need individuals and families seeking assistance. Groceries or perishable items are given per income qualified Concord NC family, not on an individual basis. Non-perishable groceries, freshly made food and fresh produce are distributed when available along with holiday baskets.
Groceries are given out by the pantry at Saint Vincent parish. This will occur on a monthly basis and include non-perishable food items like dry good, rice, soup and cans. While more limited, household paper products, free baby food or formula and diapers are also distributed if needed.
Using donations and volunteers from the community, free Holiday Food Baskets are distributed in the months of November or December of each year. In some cases the Church may also provide small toys for children.

The Youth Program is offered for children living in struggling and at-risk families in need of assistance. There are a few parts of this service. Summer lunches are offered during school breaks, new backpacks with school supplies are offered by Society of Saint Vincent at the start of a new school year, referrals for financial assistance to pay for summer programs is offered and holiday gifts are distributed yearly through the Adopt-a-Family program. This free service is offered to any household in the Concord North Carolina area that earned less than certain government guidelines.
There is a team ready to help that consists of trained and certified volunteer tax preparers through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. This is an initiative of non-profits such as the United Way and the IRS. This program saves struggling families money on paying for tax preparation and they also receive help in obtaining all due credits and deductions available to them.
Saint Vincent de Paul Society Adult Education is another program offered. This service places a focus on enhancing work and life skills to make motivated, job seeking adults more marketable in the employment arena. Classes are free to clients and the general public based on available space. Sessions cover everything from creating a resume to the use of computer software, such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel and more.
