Brooklyn free food pantries.
The Brooklyn New York region is served by a number of free food banks, soup kitchens, and free emergency food pantries. Low income families, seniors, and others who are struggling can turn to these pantries near them for help. Another option is to receive meals from a soup kitchen in the city. Numerous non-profits, churches, and government programs (listed below) are focused on ensuring that people in the community do not go hungry. There is also a referral number at the bottom of the page for more free food or meal programs near you.
Most of the centers listed below will only help people who live in the immediate area of the pantry or soup kitchen. They will also have other requirements that need to be met by residents of Brooklyn, including they will often need proof of residence, identification, and hardship status. Many of the locations are only open certain days of the week and hours as well.
The food items and groceries provided by each pantry will vary, often based on season and what was donated at a certain time. Most pantries will distribute bags of groceries and may have more specialty items, such as baby formula or fresh fruits. The soup kitchens will also serve a hot meal, with some of the Brooklyn centers focused on meeting the needs of seniors, children, or students during the summer months.
