Saint Vincent de Paul assistance programs Berkeley County West Virginia.

Saint Vincent de Paul is a Berkeley County church charity that helps the poor, unemployed, less fortunate and others. The resources are extensive, and range from free food or clothes to short term accommodations, counseling, advice, and other support. Whether financial aid for bills, a little advice, or support for seniors or the disabled, assistance is offered.

Saint Vincent de Paul Society tries to provide at least a 3-day supply of groceries from their free food bank. The assistance is available for income qualified individuals and families of Berkeley County, or it can help people that are in some form of crisis situation. Please know that no one is guaranteed to get support, and also the selection of what is given out often changes and at times certain items may not be available.

Based on donations, the food pantry may offer dairy and eggs, fresh meat, fresh fruits and vegetables and other various staples.  There may also be Pasta Sauce, Gluten Free Items, Soups like Progresso or Campbell’s that need no mixing, Canned meats - chicken and ham, and more. As far as other supplies, the pantry may even have some basic items available. This comes in the form of laundry soap, Shaving cream and razors, or female hygiene items.

SVDP in Berkeley County allows people to “shop” once every 30 days (if they are eligible). For use of the center, applicants need proof of Berkeley County residency such as a copy of a lease, utility or Phone Bill. They also need photo identification such as passport or driver’s license.

The thrift shop at Berkeley County WV Saint Vincent sells gently used quality merchandise, and there is a wide assortment available. The site is staffed by friendly member volunteers, and in general it has a great reputation in the general Berkeley County community. The center is managed as well as staffed entirely by our member volunteers.

The merchandise is affordable as well as quality. There may be women’s, mens' and children’s apparel, books for every age, baby clothes and accessories, shoes, sporting goods, housewares, linens, toys, home decorations, seasonal items, and jewelry. There may be other items too as the inventory always changes over time. The volunteer members work hard to make sure the merchandise is always priced fairly, good quality, and clean.

In addition to selling items, the SVDP  thrift shop is the main source of money for the other programs offered at the non-profit. They help pay for the so called philanthropic programs. Note that donations, of goods or of money, are appreciated at the center. In addition to giving back to the less fortunate, the donations are tax deductible for federal tax purposes, and a receipt will be provided.

Note that for safety reasons, donations are accepted by the thrift store only during business hours. Make sure they are in decent condition...not stained, damaged, etc. People should not just drop off the goods. Some larger items can be picked up by the volunteers. Note never leave items outside when the location is closed as they could be damaged by weather and/or maybe even stolen.
