Help from Area Christians Together Neighborhood assistance programs.

Several churches in Bossier Parish partner together as part of A.C.T.I.O.N. They provide financial aid, services such as ESL classes, career and job opportunities, food, and other support. There is also holiday assistance including free Christmas gifts, meal or toys as well as many other emergency programs available.

A focus is on the vulnerable, whether migrant workers, the unemployed, seniors, or disabled. The aim is to stop homelessness by offering rent, mortgage or energy bill help as well as prevent hunger with free food or meals. There are also free items from the churches for the community, based on donations as well as other criteria.

Free food, household or personal supplies and financial assistance programs

When hunger strikes, the food bank at Area Christians Together Neighborhood can be turned to in an emergency. The center is stocked by volunteers, community food drives, donations from businesses, and other sources. What may be passed out is as follows. But the exact contents change over time.

Peanut Butter (no glass jars)
Canned Meats - Tuna, Spam, Ham, Beef, Chicken
Canned Fruits
Canned Vegetables
Dried Beans
Boxed or Canned Soups
Cereal
Rice
Boxed or Canned Juices
Boxed Pastas

During the holidays, ACTION has meals for Bossier Parish families or individuals. There are also cultural holiday parties too. Whether a free Thanksgiving turkey, Easter basket, or Christmas meal, help is offered. There may even be some small toys or stocking stuffers for children.

Financial as well as Material Assistance is provided on a case by case basis. A.C.T.I.O.N will determine what amounts, if anything, that someone qualifies for. There will always be an intake form that the person needs to complete in order to apply, as well as an interview with a case manager.

When seeking funds for rent, medications, water bill help, or even a box of food, proper identification is needed. If the concern is on utilities, then copies of disconnection notices are needed. Residents of Bossier Parish seeking vouchers for medications need proof of the condition, such as a doctor note. The same goes for other requests, whether it is rent (bring copy of a lease), food (proof of income) and more is needed.

ACTION also provides free basic needs. The churches raise donations and funds from the community. They than provide these items as well as support to the community. There may be some free clothes or furniture for a low income family. Or women fleeing domestic violence can get are, including legal aid. The homeless can get some food or a hot meal, or maybe a blanket. Many other basic needs can be offered too. Or find charitable free item programs.

Education and ESL classes

As noted, ACTIION helps address poverty and supports low income families in other ways. One resource is the English as a Second Language (ESL) workshops as well as free classes. These are held on occasion and are for children or adults. Spanish speakers, migrant workers, and others in Bossier Parish can sign up for free. A lead agency is the Broadmoor En Espanol church.

Area Christians Together Neighborhood has mentors as well as counseling. It can be faith based or just one on one with a mentor or volunteer. Or non-profits, charities, or businesses from Bossier County come the churches to offer support. Whether is it life advice, tips on getting a job, help in applying for SNAP food stamps, or some other help, assistance is offered.
